A few months back I had a couple of flickering brake light failure warnings but they cleared and I checked all lights were working ok. Last week warning light came on so checked and N/S was out. Got a new bulb and put it in but both stop and tail light not working. I also found the 12v power socket is dead. I took the liner panel out and all connections seem in place. Next step is to check if power is at the 3 bulb terminals but just wondered if it could be a fuse problem? I also found a red cord which hangs down the light unit and goes through a guide towards the rear bulkhead. Any advice please

Think the red cord is the emergency petrol cap release.

Called in at a local garage and power supply to light is ok after swapping bulb holder from N/S. New bulb ok but it appears fault is in the bulb holder. If any one has a spare I would like to buy it. There is no spares listing for it - just a complete rear light unit. Tried a few breakers but none available. Yet to investigate the power socket.

The bulb holder fault was one the 2 bottom contact pins had broken off. I reckon that happened over a period of time when I was getting brake failure message flickering on and off

I was moaning to a friend who runs a garage about the bulb holder not being available. He said that's not unusual - a customer with a Kia had a failed LED sidelight. The car was 9 years old, fortunately it was covered by their 10 year warranty. Otherwise it was a new headlight unit at £1000+
