4k.....Yet another rip off then.....That's stupid money for a clutch..Thought 2.4k was silly.....Makes me think the Auto QP is the way to go even more.

Don't early auto cars suffer with variator problems which is a 5-6k fix , it's a minefield

I did see a DS QP being advertised as having a new clutch fitted at a cost of £3,800, I'd have put it had a new clutch in the ad but left out the cost , you don't want a prospective buyer thinking all the bills will be extortionate before he's even viewed it

Variators become suspect around 45000miles and to replace costs about £4000-£5000
They can also be specified on a warranty

Variators are an issue on early upto 2009/2010 ZF Auto's I believe. That is about £5k though. Either way a QP with DS clutch @ £4k & variators @ £5k neither are cheap.

Starting to put me off a QP V at the moment. Wondering if I might dive back into an AMG instead. A nice CLS55 would do the trick

I guess what we are all saying is what we all know. All these level of motors may need cash sinking into them. These clutches and variators don't sound like fun or good value though. I would have had a nice 2007 ZF auto by now if the variators issue wasn't an issue or so stupid expensive to resolve.

I agree maybe buy one with variators or clutch recently done is a more sensible idea.

At least AMG suspension is max £6k for the whole lot worse case and that is bit often the case that the whole lot goes in one go.

Missing my AMG & been itching to get back into one again at some point. Might just run my SL500 for a bit with the E250 estate for a month or so while I mull it all over.

I drop the XJ off to my brother to sell on Thursday & pick up my SL500. Never driven it yet although I bought it nearly a year ago! Was up for sale but not sold yet so will keep it & enjoy it until spring & maybe sell then.

Don't be put off Dean , buy a car with recent clutch and get an inspection done.

That is a must....but still doesn't stop the fact it will still need a clutch at some stage...Unless you sell before of course..........Is it the labour that is pushing the price up on clutch replacement as surely the parts cannot be in the 1000's...

The parts are expensive but its not your normal clutch. These are race clutches and are really works of art and if you need to change the flywheel, hydraulic release bearing, F1 sensor and the bearings in the bell housing then there is a bit of work involved.
I don't think really its too bad a cost when you understand what's involved.
My eyes have been opened working for Maserati and doing variators, chains, slides and guides well that is labour intensive.
