I've found my next car but may keep the Maser as well, depends on the wife. The £16k offer has gone as the guy has since found another car, oh well. I know December isn't the right month to be selling a Mas but I'll give it a go.

A good buy at the price. But I still think it would be better to advertise it for what it is, a duo-select Sport GT, and not what it's not (an auto, or a GTS). Even minor wording mistakes in adverts can put people off, especially with niche/specialist cars such as Maseratis. Keen buyers will think that if you're trying to hide what model the car is, or simply don't know what it is, that there is little chance of it being well cared for. Lots of QP fans view the d/s Sport GT as the best of the breed, so my humble advice (for what it's worth) is to make it as obvious as possible that that's what you're selling.

Thanks for the helpful advice Ewan, I'll change what I can on the Autotrader advert.

Yes, equally I would be looking for a QP Auto if I was in the market for one (not yet)
So I would be a bit dischuffed if I turned up for an advertised Auto and found it to be Duo

Lots of adverts call them auto but to be honest you only have to look at the interior pictures to know its DS.

Guys, I have agreed a price for a part exchange against my next car but would rather it went to a forum member at the price. Would be a shame for a trader to get it cheap and then mark it up a few grand.

It is a fair price indeed for what looks like a fair car. Clutch is 90% worn so will need replacement soon to be factored in. I was told the clutch is more expensive on a QP compared to a 4200 CC. I thought £4k at an indy.

With 5 previous owners, middle of the road brand mixed tyres at that mileage I don't think it will command any stronger money. Always concerns me when owners don't put top brand tyres on a car like the his. Make me wonder what else has been scrimped on.

Maybe I am being harsh as owner seems decent enough chap and car seems fair enough. I just can't value it higher or as much as that even. Obviously only my opinion!

if you've been offered anything like 15k in PX I'd snap their hand off and get it sold , once a private buyer asks about the clutch they'll walk or bid you 3k less

Thanks for the offer Rockits but I have been offered far more than that already and the main dealer had a good look at it yesterday when I went to firm up on my new car. No problems there.

If you check the main dealer websites a replacement clutch is only £2200 (inc. VAT), thrust bearing is typically another £500 (inc. VAT) and that's before you negotiate for a little discount. The car has Pirelli P Zero's on the rear and Falken 452's on the front so not middle of the road brands as suggested earlier. A full inspection was carried out at Ferrari main dealer when I bought the car and I spent £1700 on it with them and got a clean bill of health. I wouldn't take my family out in a rocket without doing this prep. This car will pop up at a garage mid-January with a sticker price of £17k+ without anything being done. I have been offered a fair trade in price and will go with that if it does not sell but wanted Forum members do get first crack at it as the Forum and its members have been really helpful and the information on the site invaluable.

No worries, hope you weren't offended. I was only trying to be honest and give my personal opinion. The original £16k offer you had was good in my book and a £15k one is still a very good one that I would accept.

The clutch prices form the main dealer are a little misleading as that will not be the total cost. There of often other related parts that need replacement, fitting and adjustment at the same time. I have been quoted £4k by a known and well regarded indy to do the full job on a QP V DS.

Sorry that I got the tyres wrong on the rear as I thought I saw Avon's on the rear ones but was only going by the photo in the Autotrader add. I can't agree that Falken's are a premium brand though. They are a middle of the road brand in my opinion but each to their own and personal opinion may differ. I am sure they are fine but wouldn't have been my choice.

I am sure the car will pop up in a dealer for £17k but I am sure they will do some prep and spend some money as pretty all cars need prep before retailing. A dealer will need at least £3k margin in a car like this to cover prep, profit and warranty. The problem with these cars as a private sale is there is zero come back if there are any issues and that scares people. Often people would rather pay £17k from a dealer rather than £14k privately. I can see why and think I would as well. You only need one decent thing to go wrong on the first year and the £3k will be eaten up.

I bought my 4200 privately but it had been owned from new by the 1st owner, had only done 11k miles, had been serviced every year by Modena then Emblem. It was a known car and was known to be in tip top condition.

I wish you well with the sale. By the way what car have you replaced it with? Another Maser?
