Is it anything to do with the height?

Perhaps a mix of cockney rhyming slang. Bag = 1000
Bagger = a mountain over 1000 feet or metres?

Well the answer is Baggers are people who climb the Monroes, mountains, I believe there are many hundred to get around, few people have climbed them all or bagged them in their lifetime.

Chris Amoo won in 1987 with his Afghan Hound and he still breeds & shows his dogs today, including Deerhounds and Irish Wolf Hounds
