No, not Norway.

Your right that tax reasons was part of the reason to for the change. The cut off being that anything 10 percent abv and under was tax exempt as it was classed as a soft drink or foodstuff.

The influx of foreign beers and lagers meant that sales and taxes from the national drink were falling.

The next clue is that the country in question is well known for its national drink. Although other countries have their own version of this drink.

If nobody gets the correct country by 10pm i will give a final clue.

Is a newbie allowed to play? My guess is Russia & vodka.
First thought was Scotland & whisky. Too small a country though.
Then I remembered a neighbour, a rusky, who is permanently pi**ed.
Fell of his balcony a while ago and cracked two vertebrae.
Probably the vodka that caused it and saved him.

Thanks fellas. Let's have an easy one to start. Sticking with beversges - since 2015 which National Institution reported a 60% increase in sales of another country's favourite soft drink?

Russia is the correct answer.

Newbies always welcome. The rules of the quiz are simple. If you get the correct answer its your turn to set the question of the day.

Clues are sometimes needed along the way but if the question goes on for much more than 24 hours then reveal the answer and set another question.

Welcome along and enjoy the forum.

Only when deep fried Mars bars are in short supply. But yes - since the SNP lot turned up at Westminster.
So congrats to the winner MrPea and a case of the bloody stuff to everyone else.

Doh ! Thats one of those questions that is so obvious if you think about it. Good question. Thats the kind of question we like.

We should break the half a million views mark on this thread in the next month or so. Just shows the thirst for useless knowledge we have ! :lol2:

Over to you Mr Pea.

Believe it or not I'm Scottish and proud of my heritage. Haggis & whisky - yes, bagpipes - definitely and the occasional shanked golf ball too. I do have to the draw the line at Iron Bru & the SNP though.

I'll go for an easy one, but that will leave people kicking themselves trying to remember...

At 12:41pm GMT tomorrow, there will be a new moon. This one signals the new Chinese Year. What are, in order, the Chinese year zodiac animals, starting with the animal for this new year?

I anticipate some guesswork and elimination processes.

See if i can get these in the right order. The Chinese new year animals and their order comes from a story about the Jade Emporer and the race for the animals to cross a fast flowing river to meet the Emporer.

The weakest animal won the race and was first to meet the Emporer by hitching a ride on the back of the strongest animal and then jumping on to the other side to get ahead.

In order if i remember correctly.

Rat
Ox
Tiger
Rabbit
Dragon
Snake
Horse
Goat / ram
Monkey
Rooster
Dog
Pig

Having worked for a Chinese company for 10 years i probably have an advantage on this question.

Having just re read the question then the list above is the order they came in the race.

Starting from this new year the order would be

Rooster
Dog
Pig
Rat
Ox
Tiger
Rabbit
Dragon
Snake
Horse
Goat / Ram
Monkey

Assuming I remembered the correct finishing order.
