Question of the day

I was thinking air cooled otherwise filling with coolant would take too much time.

Having said that if the engine only has to start for it to count as the engine swap being complete then the coolant can be added later.

No, neither. It is or was a mainstream car and not some small make vehicle.

A mate used to have a Morris Traveller. We changed the clutch plate in about 30 minutes once - which involved dismantling almost the entire front end.
Remember thinking there wasn't much engine in the bay. He changed it for a 1.6 Fiat shortly after - much more like it :)

Moggy's with Twin Cam fit swaps was a regular upgrade when I was younger, great in a straight line but brakes and cornering was compromised by the extra power.

Was the answer not related to the rally boys, they could swap engines in silly times. Escort or maybe a Scooby?

Ok it was an Escort and I believe it was Rally related in 1982.

So now for part 2, how long did it take, remember no googling. I'll give it to the closest

Was it not a jeep during the Combined Services competitions at the Royal Albert hall in the old days?

If it's an Escort then it may have been a team of rally mechanics - say from Malcolm Wilson's Ford team?

Ok so no guesses on how long then?

As a clue the record for a VW Beetle is in single minutes.

If memory serves me correctly it was about 2 minutes. I remember watching it on Record Breakers as a kid.
They drove the Escort in.
All got ready. Started the clock, whipped on engine out and put a new one in 2 minutes later drove it away.
I think it was a blue one as well.

If the record for the beetle is a single minute then the world record fastest engine change cant be longer than a minute. :)

50 seconds is my guess.

'single minutes.'

Note the 's' So I'd assume Matt means <=9 minutes, for the beetle
