Not Ipswich by any chance, I remember they had Pioneer on their shirts at one point.

Grey matter is telling me the first team that had sponsors names on their shirts didnt have permision from the FA so only played a few games in sponsored shirts before they had to stop.

I cant remember the team but it was something along the lines of a local business / shop that sponsored them.

I was about 6 at the time ! Lol The Liverpool deal was a couple of years later.

Will rattle the brain cells and see if a team name falls out.

That's the story I read today. Yes Liverpool were the first team to have shirt sponsorship AFTER the FA changed the rules but this team did it before the ruling was made.

As a clue, the saviour of Wolverhampton Wanderers was the pioneer I was referring too, but he was at another club...
