to granturismo to replace ugly remote that looks like this?

assuming one would extract immobiliser chip, is the remote compatible i.e. same frequency etc?

You might be able to get the transmitter from the GT into the 4200 fob. Probably more likely to work as I think they are different systems (although probably the same frequency)

You'd have to get a blade to fit into the 4200 fob, but match your GT mechanical bits. That, I suspect, will be tricky, but again, you could probably cannibalise the GT key

I have to say, though, I think the GT key is way better.

after years of using blade type key for VW's and SEAT's and then keyless Audi I am hankering after just standard plain looking key (that looks like a key) when I get GT but if its too much hassle I won't let this change my mind to get the car ;-)

The immobiliser chip is moulded into the body of the GT key fob so needs a dremel or something similar to get it out - not a simple swap

Is it not? Couple of threads I read made it seem simplish.

I rather want to change my key body for a less battered one, but not going to risk that until I get a new one. Can't do that without a V5. 6 *weeks* before DVLA will even think it might have gone away

I have just bought a new case for my GT key for eBay with a plan
to swap the key and electronics over including the chip, which I
have read is glued in but easily removed if warmed.

It will be interesting to see what the quality of the case is like as it was
not expensive.

I have an unused, genuine GT key here which came from a written off car so it has a blade cut for a car and a programmed transponder which I need to swap over at some point when I have the patience!

Will toasting the key for long will not damage any of the circuitry or the transponder?

It's only 120 C and I *doubt* the innards would get much higher than 60 ish. You probably don't want to do it over and over because of thermal creep etc but once or twice I'd not be worried about. Personally

What I *would* probably do is take it out every minute or so and test so it was heated for the least possible time. Failing that a heat gun (or possibly even a hair dryer) might well be a better bet.

If you're *really* worried just dremel the logo out.

Scaf, let me know how the replacement fits as I could do with a new one for my spare as the key fob loop keeps falling out.

Well the key shell arrived but I am not happy with the quality so am sending it back, I sort of half expected this would be the case as it was a little too cheap.

So the broken one will be relegated to a spare until I find another solution.

Thanks, Scaf. I finally managed to get my new one ordered so I guess I'll go the same route.

Thank you Mr C, I nervously followed the instructions you posted using a hair dryer instead of a toaster oven, and all done.
I only needed to replace the half of the shell with the buttons and the section holding in the key fob attachment so the side which contains the tiny immobiliser chip, I was able to retain from my original which made it easier.
I managed to buy an unused OEM key on ebay which was sold as a spare from a written off GTS and they advised it as a cool, key in the bowl prop for a swingers party! Not that I was searching ebay for swingers party items you understand ...

Anyway, thanks again
