Removing GS speaker grills (parcel shelf)

Hi,

Has anyone any experience of removing the speaker grills from the rear speakers (the ones on the parcel shelf) on a GS? I can't seem to get them out from the top, and am wary of using too much force in case there are screws underneath I need to undo.

I found this guide on removing the parcel shelf completely - but before I start down that road I wondered if there was a simpler way?

It's just because they're all dusty inside so it looks imperfect when you look through the rear windscreen!

Cheers,
Ben.

As Peter's said^^^^^, shelf out job. I've recently done the alpine speaker upgrade and the only way to get at the grills is to remove the rear shelf.

I managed to get my hands under the speakers and removed them without removing the shelf. Remove the back seat and find someone with small hands

I was also able to change the stock speakers out for the Alpine upgrade without removing the rear shelf, it is possible with the right tools!

Thanks all. A job for a sunny (but not too sunny) weekend then I think. And maybe I'll upgrade the speakers while I'm at at!

Cheers,
Ben.

Ben, i really wouldn't bother with the rear parcel shelf speakers IMO. I've done the upgrade with Alpine speakers from Matts post. The biggest improvement was the rear quarter panel Alpine speakers and the door speakers, they sound far better than the paper cone speakers i had. The rear ones, you just cant hear at all really. I know some of the guys have just unplugged them.

Actually now you mention it I read that thread as well, so I agree probably not worthwhile.
