Replacement windscreen

Just wondering what other people's experience is on getting a replacement screen....

A crack appeared at the bottom of the 3200's screen on the driver's side and grew about 25cm upwards.
Rang the insurers - they use Auto Windscreens.
AW told me they would have to order it - no surprise, but that it could take up to 2 weeks. That was on 29th June and I'm still waiting.

The crack doesn't encroach on the driver's vision so we are still using the car, but the MOT is due next month.......

Here's hoping its in soon.....

Just be really picky , take pics of your inner leather around the screen ,and the paintwork and seals around the outer edge of the screen , tellem no hands or contact to be made with the bodywork , they dent quite easily ,

Had reason to have my passenger glass renewed 6 mo0nths ago and like you my insurer insisted autoglass did it , they screwed it up broke the microswitch , it was finished off by Marranello's atb huge extra cost to the insurer, a month later my screen cracked at the top of the passenger side about an inch , this time i insisted a main dealer do it from the off , ended up having it done by H R Owen and they made a brilliant job and supplied me a curtasy car for a couple of days whilst it was setting

Thanks for the advice Loz - I'll get the camera out.

Just waiting the call for the appontment now - Is there any advantage in having it done in their workshop I wonder - rather than the mobile guy doing it?
Its only in Reading - 20 minutes drive.

Thinking in the workshop they will have all they need and some backup so they can have enough "hands on"

Cheers

My Advice take the pics when you take it in and hand it over , let them see you taking pics , they'll know how picky you are then , good luck with the install , be sure to let us know how the experience went

seriously hacked off this week :(

After being told the screen was in I got another call from AW last Friday afternoon to say they would call on Saturday morning to make the appointment as their computer system was down.

No call on Saturday, or on Monday. Tried to call them twice Monday afternoon without success (your call is held in a queue..............for over 15 minutes)

Finally got through on Tuesday.
"Your job doesn't exist on the new system, let me check the old system.......Oh, the job's been cancelled" WTF!!!!!! :frusty1:

"I'll create a job on the new system for you....we have a screen in stock (funny that, wonder which cancelled job that's from) and our earliest appointment is next Saturday between 4 and 8"
I jokingly asked if that was AM or PM - there was a pause as she checked the system and told me that would be in the afternoon.

I've had a real moan at AW and at the insurers about their poor service to try and get an earlier fit, but no joy.

I no longer have the option of having it done at the depot - they only do mobile now.

So apparently it gets done tomorrow almost 5 weeks after my initial phone call.

On performance so far I have some trepidation, but I'll stand and watch like a hawk.

Let you know how it goes

Cheers

Gordon, just keep an eye on them, get them to inspect the metal work around the windscreen and tell them not to lean on the wings as they will ding.

AW sent out a guy to fit it, then was told he could not do it, then it was booked into the depot to be done, which to be fare, they made a decent job, this was the rear screen for me. As I understand, but front and rear screens come with the gasket, so make sure they dont use the old one.

Good luck

I read this post on Monday lunchtime with the car waiting to go for a retest at the MOT station, and after they failed to find time for it set off home on the A316...30-40 mph, a stone flew up and hit the windscreen with a crack putting a 5p sized craze in it. Shouldn't have read it...
Autoglass came today and said they would replace the screen and would insist on a factory one. Are there any non-factory screens available? At least it'll be new, and I'll take the advice about photos before the job is done. They say it should only be done at the depot as then you have 4-5 guys avalaible for such a valuable car...I liked the sound of that...:) Still, one step forward two steps back.

Just had the phonecall cancelling the fit - the technician is injured

Next available appointment is next FRIDAY!!!!!!!:mad::mad::mad:

On Monday they will try and improve on that

How hard can it be to get this done????????

So far I have remained nice and calm, but getting close to having a complete toys out the pram session.

Had the call today - I will be first fit tomorrow.

One of the reasons for my frustration is that its booked in for its MoT next Monday and the crack extends just above the wiper, so I assume that would be a fail.

I have a week or so in hand before the existing one expires, so could slip that a few days
So while I had no concerns about the MoT and having the car forced off the road when this started back in June its starting to get perilously close.

Madam will be rather cheesed off if she can't use the car.

Now fitted

OK.

Fitter came yesterday morning.
Very positive initial impression - chatting to him he had been in the business 13 years and had done many other Massers, Fezzas and the like. He also carries out training of new entrants.

The job took about 3.5 hours altogether and I'm very pleased with the end result.
He treated the car with the respect it deserves

Shame that the organisation behind these guys is pretty poor - had this happened more quickly I would have been singing AW's praises.

Still, into the MoT with confidence now.

Cheers
