Reverse / Automatic mirror adjustment

Just noticed my mirrors aren't adjusting when in reverse. Although not working is an improvement, as I find them infuriating, I'm still curious why they're not working? Since they last worked, car has been sat a couple of weeks and had a new windscreen, not sure if either of these would have an impact?

Mine did that once, took ages to figure out, then I moved the switch for adjusting the mirror away from the left hand position. It started working then.

Interesting - perhaps we'll look for the switch as I agree the auto adjustment is a pita. Out of curiosity where did you get your windscreen replacement from @RussBird82

You can adjust the position of the mirror drop by selecting reverse, the mirror drops, then select the left hand adjustment on the mirror switch. Then adjust the mirror to where you like when reversing. Then out of reverse and move the switch to the right hand adjustment.

When you select reverse, it will then return to where you set it.

The seat memory function just stops sometimes. The mirror dipping is part of that.

You can just set the reverse mirror position to be the same as the forward mirror position....

Regrettably it was via Autoglass as nominated by my insurer. I think I could have paid £50 extra to have it done by Maserati but didn't get a response from Maserati (Stockport) so didn't pursue. I imagine they outsource the work anyway. It took 14 weeks and 3 screens in all. First screen arrived after 2-3 weeks but was from their regular supplier but was missing the gasket/trim so couldn't install. Radio silence for a while before they advised me at 4-6 weeks they had a suitable alternative (but wouldn't elaborate) so I passed on that one. I then provided them with the part number via Eurospares and their procurement team bought it from them. I believe the first one arrived damaged and now third screen is the one they eventually fitted. I would have given them the thumbs up however the fitters scratched the A-pillar down to bare metal and scratched/marred my my ceramic coating all around the screen and onto the wings. So they're coming back in a week or so to appraise the damage - they'll probably think I'm a right ****** making a fuss over nothing but having spent £1k having it professionally detailed and coated last month I wasn't happy with the slap dash wipe down pre and post installation. Plus it's a black car so in the sunlight they stand out like a sore thumb vs the rest of the car.

Long story short though if you do need a screen you can get it via Autoglass, just ask for their procurement team. And although I'm not a fan of supervising supposedly competent tradespeople, it wouldn't harm to watch out for the 'cloth of doom' and politely request they avoid your paintwork.

Additionally my radio doesn't work, but as I've been advised by someone on Facebook forum it is in fact the correct screen, it would appear it either wasn't connected beforehand or someone has moved the wiring to it as the installers advised the wire on the existing screen had been cut (installed by Autoglass in 2012), and the new screen had a connector with nothing to connect to. Assume it's just tucked away as opposed cut like the last one (although that wouldn't surprise me either way). I use Parrot/Bluetooth so not having a radio is not big deal. I also noticed the cover for the Sat NAV/GPS unit thing was cracked, possibly when they lent over to refit the rear mirror. It already had a slight crack on one side but I did find it a bit odd it's now shattered on both sides, I gather this part is relatively unobtainable?

@RussBird82 drop me a DM I *might* be able to get some leverage applied.

Thanks for that tip, it’s been frustrating me for an age, made the adjustment this morning before a mini road trip to West Wales, so much better to see behind me when reversing than just seeing the ground!

Cheers

It was me that answered you on facebook Russ. After the other chap said the wrong screen had been fitted.

In answer to your FB question. I dont know. I assume there is a connection under the headlining near the rear view mirror. Ive not had to take the headlining down to confirm but im sure somebody that has will confirm how the lead from the screen is connected.

Even with twin aerials from the front and rear screen the radio reception has never been great on my 4200 or GS.

Whilst on the subject of Gransport and door mirrors, is it possible to have them fold back automatically when the doors are locked. That would be useful.

Not as stock, no. God knows why Maserati don't include this. It's not even on my Ghibli, although the mirrors will auto *un*fold when you hit a certain speed(!)

I bought a little OBD thing from Aliexpress for about £20 which does it (as well as close the windows, which is nice) No idea if there's one for the GS

There is for the GS... I bought one but never fitted... not driving the car so it has not been an issue.

There is a full post on this forum from the guy who put me onto the product.

Just for info, I had an issue with reversing mirror positions and I was able to track it down to a small switch that's pressed when you select the reverse gear (this is in a manual 4200). Symptoms were the mirrors briefly folding down and repositioning, and no reversing lights or sensors.

I removed the gearstick boot (it pops out, held in with plastic clips, two at the top edge and two at the bottom) and secured the small switch that the shaft makes contact with, and it instantly fixed the issue. If the switch was to fail, its part number is 980001109 (labelled as item 6 on this diagram).

Top Man, it is a manual and my reverse lights have also stopped. Will have a look later on today

No worries! I would recommend taking care when removing the boot, the clips are plastic and might be at risk of breaking. There could also be oil / grease under there (there was on mine), you might want to protect your interior bits with a bin bag or something.

My issue was the switch unit was being pushed to the side so it wasn't engaging it. I haven't done it yet, but I'm planning to permanently fix it with an L-shaped bit of plastic superglued to the flat surface that'll lock it in place. I don't want to put screws through it just in case it hits a cable or interferes with a mechanical part. I'll probably publish a thread with pictures when I get round to it! :)
