Very sad news, indeed. I remember seeing him perform each week with Ade Edmonson as the Dangerous Brothers in 1981 at the original Comedy Store. 56 is no age. :(

The Young ones was the theme to my very warped childhood. This is the saddest 'celebrity' death I've heard of since, well, forever, for me anyway.
R.I.P Rick Mayall, I'll continue to laugh at what you did so well, thank you.

Ade sums it up as only a friend can...

"There were times when Rik and I were writing together when we almost died laughing.

They were some of the most carefree stupid days I ever had, and I feel privileged to have shared them with him.

"And now he's died for real. Without me. Selfish bast@rd."

Rest in disrespectful, fun-poking peace Rick, and thank-you. Glad you came; gutted you're gone.

Not forgetting his perfomances in the Comic Strip, sad to lose such a talented man so soon in his life.

Saw him and Ade do bottom live many years ago, he halted the show to move the curtains back so those at the sides got a better view.

Comedy genius
