Sounds about right for the 1st year, should drop to a more palatable amount next year. The swines at no10 hammer new cars on tax, it's just another cash cow they dreamt up

The mustang was over 2k in the 1st year but it's in the OTR price of the car so not something you have to write a cheque for , because the list price is under 40k it's £140 after that

It's the government deciding they don't want to wait 4 years to get the 2k in tax @ £550 a year

I end up paying from 1k-2.5k car tax per year depending on what car is taxed on any given month.

Maybe I should sell up & buy one decent one.

Meh. This is just something you take into account when you buy cars isn't it? I'm paying over £800/year to alternative between two cars. Its madness but its the price you have to pay.

We do have one car that costs nothing to tax, does that balance it out? No.

I don't agree with the current car tax structure but have had the discussion & made my thoughts known many many times. It is what it is...I can't change it.....whatever.

I'm OK with consistency & logic but neither of those exist with car tax. Even the company car tax structure is fundamentally flawed & not thought through

I am looking from and end user view point though. Of course from the govt side it makes total sense!

Just got my renewal on the Golf, £290, I think it’s gone up £50 in a year, is the conspiracy theory, we will tax you into a new car, my FIL was £10 when he got his car, now £190, what a rip off, roads are shite, defence budget is slashed, nhs on its knees, where are they spending it,

On the deficit, obviously... Although in truth, some of it must clearly go towards Brexit negotiations. You think the "No Deal" outcome doesn't cost time and money to figure out !? Jeez...

I'm not quite sure why, but I've just placed an offer on a rare RHD 1972 Peugeot 304 Cabriolet. Zero road tax and no need for an MOT. Should help to average out the others somewhat.
