I have a 1912 Rolex (I think, I'd need to check the hallmark, but it's within 5 years) Still keeps as good a time as any of my other mechanical watches. It was serviced not so long ago

Thanks for all the replies guys, going to view it next week before the auction. I realise it is not everybodys cup of tea but it is a great looking piece to me. We are all different!
On a general question for those that know their Rolex watches, it is a 1980 made watch, would that age put anyone off?

I recently bought a 1984 two tone submariner to wear everyday. I'd been looking for a while as I did not want a modern piece so go for it if you like it.

You know, these items are like fine wine, they get better with age.........or am I just egging myself on to buy it. Would have preferred a more modern one but sometimes age is not as important as condition. Well, that's what I keep telling my wife anyway.

Then buy a more modern one from a reputable dealer. I think that's a **** of a risk, before we even get into the taste issue.

No, I went to view it in Norfolk the week before the auction and didn't like it "in the flesh" just didn't look as nice somehow. Also the price went up on the bidding higher than I would have gone to anyway.
Still looking, best deals on Rolexes that I have ever had were in USA so I'll wait until my next trip there.
