They don't when the tread has parted company from the rest of the rubber. No spare in boot, obviously... Long wait for breakdown truck, cracking evening.

I hate run-flats with a passion. I've just got rid off them off my BM and life is much better. They are heavy, stiff, noisy, very expensive, don't wear well and they ruin the ride and handling. What's not to like? Even if they are brand new, if you run them when flat, they are kn4ckered and need replacing. Absolute garbage.

My thoughts exactly Benny. The runflats are only still on it as I intended putting the winter tyres on this weekend. They won't be going back on in Spring. Hateful useless junk. Worse than a normal tyre on every possible front.

50k at 50kmph. Bollox, I'd rather walk. Change to normal tyres at the earliest chance you get and your life will return to normal. They are cr4p.

50k at 50kmph... Bollox.

Edited to correct the punctuation Benny ;)

Will post a picture later of my runflat after 6 miles at 30mph/50kph. The inner sidewall was more than 50% separated from the rest of the carcass. There was a big notice on the BMW display, telling me it was perfectly safe to continue to drive at up to 50mph/80kph. As you correctly said, 'Bollox'. Total and utter bollox.

What's more, the manufacturers and many tyre dealerships say you cannot repair a run-nflat even if you did not drive it any further than you would have a normal tyre on detecting a puncture. Why? Because you are expected to continue driving it because you can. You may be able to find the odd shop that will repair it but it's pot luck.

Agree with all the above - they are cr@p!

My BMW has them.
Driving down the autoroute on holiday in France, and the light comes on.
All family in car, packed to the rafters.
Stop, look around at each tyre, and I haven't a clue which tyre has supposedly gone flat, only way to tell is too check the pressure in each tyre, and, you guessed it, I have no pressure gauge.
Reset the system, and continue, fingers crossed.
It did not come on, and when we got to relatives and checked the pressures, all okay.
Over the last two years I have had two proper flats, and six false alarms.
On both occasions because I have had proper flats and no spare tyre, both tyres ended up being scrap after driving to the nearest tyre dealership.
Fortunately as a company car, straight onto the company Visa card thank goodness!
