Drew: Don't be so cynical: Let me rephrase the stats in light of your reply:

1: Comparing all European airlines, RA have the most modern fleet because they have invested heavily in that process, whereas the rest have not been as aggressive.
2. Punctuality is in the control/domain of ALL airlines - RA happen to be better at it than ALL the others.

There....pick the bones out of that one - and try to appreciate that they are giving it a go, unlike some airlines out there.

There's more to being a decent airline than having an incredibly aggressive (but I'll admit very effective) business model. They have squeezed every ounce of revenue out of the passengers, with the resulting hideous flight experience. They squeeze every ounce out of their staff, which isn't good for many reasons, but I'll just highlight safety as once particularly good one.

Investment in new aircraft was very good, and far-sighted by their CEO, no question.

They pad the timetables and fly to remote airports, which have little traffic and consequently lower risk of delayed arrivals. Trouble is, many of those airports are MILES from the cities they supposedly serve, so it's meaningless to talk about arriving on time, when there's a 1 hour bus journey to get to where the town really is. It's not just in the domain of a particular airline to ensure on-time arrival stats.

I very much appreciate it's an awesome business; it's just a crappy airline. I know several pilots and ex-pilots from RA, and none of them have a good word to say. I'm certain Benny can add to that too.

Sure lots slag it off....but even more use it.

At the end of day when the national carriers dumped on poor old Freddie Laker.....O'Leary et al were better prepared....and more aggressive.

No one has to work for them.......but again lots still do.

Have to say the 'remote' airports suited me well to get to areas of France outside of the big city's like Angers etc

Why bash RA when you know exactly what you get when you book - other airlines hide similar sh*t in the small print

That's the problem we do know what we are getting but there isn't a alternative because there are the only ones flying to certain destinations if there had competition from other airlines there customer service and after care would be a lot better and thay know this .it would be interesting to see which is the favourite airlines for frequent flyer forum members for customer service .

Faro is not remote and three other budget airlines fly there from Manchester. They all quote pretty much the same flight times, so no advantageous padding there. I have flown there and back six times in the last few months. RR have always been significantly cheaper and have always landed early in both directions.

I wanted to hate flying with them and complain about the service but, apart from a frustrating call to their call centre on one occasion, I have found no cause to. Perhaps I've been lucky. Time will tell as we will be doing this trip very regularly going forwards.

I dislike them with a passion and will actively seek an alternative destination than get stressed by the RA experience.

As for the Chief Exec....

I'm human and not an animal and want to be treated as such. I avoid them as much as possible following too much poor service in the past. They started ok but then went downhill as a consequence I hate having to go back when needs must.
