Satnav for europe

Hello again!

We are planning a trip to Italy in the next 10 days or so in my QP - 2008 model. Is there an easy/cheap way to get discs for the satnav or is it just easier to use the tomtom with the appropriate mapping?

I am sure this has been asked before, but I can't see any thread about European maps. If I have missed it, apologies.

Thanks for your help!

Hi jaisharma,
I have the 2010 uk/ireland and major roads of europe discs...
you are quite welcome to borrow them, but note that it really is only the MAJOR roads of europe that are on there!
last time I tried to use it in France, I 'appeared' to be off-piste for 75% of the time!
IMO you are better off with a tom-tom

Hi Jai,
Just come back from France and the TomTom worked a treat, shows all roads and points of interest like fuel stops, you also get the camera locator, but watch France, they don't allow camera spotters.
Cheers

Sadly Masser Sat Navs are generally poor £ for £ and also in operation.

I'd got for a Tom Tom or like me, a Garmin.

I have TomTom on my iPhone and it had all of Europe for about £70 in the app store. It's by far and away the best thing since sliced bread. It's a backup you can always rely on.

As the others have said, Maserati don't do in car entertainment and systems very well (that is a very polite way of putting it).

Matt, if you use it in your iPhone in Europe, it'll surely last about 10 mins til you reach your data limit. 50mb on O2, not sure what other providers are like. I'd wholly recommend a Garmin Nuvi, they're excellent and only £100 or so. I'd agree with Dave in that Maserati satnavs are poor value for money.

The TomTom and Co-pilot apps download the maps onto the iPhone/iPod, so no data load required.
I have all of europe on my iPad ready for our euro trip in the summer....sadly not in the Maser with two kids and the kitchen sink!

Not any more you don't. I'm in France at the moment. Been here for several weeks. I foolishly took the TomTom upgrade (on my iPhone) last week and the new version deleted all the camera information to comply with the new French law. I did seven hours motoring on Thursday and not a single beeb when passing cameras :(

If you want French camera locations you need to keep your old version. Of course the information will be 'frozen in time' as TomTom won't be adding new camera positions.

All maps are stored on the device, about 2GB's worth so no data required. It also has Google search (data required) where you just search Google, find what your looking for and it plumbs it straight into the sat nav app.

Brilliant.

My In car satnav is unreliable takes you on some bizarre routes, loses your planned route on times and just displays the map, so use my Garmin or my iphone as backup.

Pants really when you think how much the cars cost

My mistake, think I'll be getting an app for my next trip.

It really is good Dicky.

As it syncs with iTunes you can just transfer it when you upgrade your phone
