Sealant

It took me 2 weeks to prep the bodywork for Silverstone, working evenings and w/e's. The car hadn't been detailed before and there where some fairly deep scratches requiring attention.
I was originally going to wet sand the lacquer, based on it working well for the stone chips on the front when I restored the grill.
However time being of the essence I played safe and went for standard buffing. Glad I didn't, the lacquer is one of the toughest out there and it really did take a couple of days before I understood how to work the compounds to the lacquer over larger areas. Perhaps in an ideal world I would have wet sanded and buffed panel by panel but didn't want to run out of time.
Anyway I decided to finish with a sealant instead of wax. Again a bit of a pig to get on but with a bit of practice it all worked out in the end. Washing is now a completely different experience, feels like the mitt is gliding over glass and the beading is incredible. They say it lasts years so we'll see. The car is either garaged or covered so not totally exposed to the elements but will be interesting to see if it does what it says on the tin....

So not had a chance to wash and cover the car since Wilton. Beading holding up very well so pleased with the sealant route.
I’d already filled in the stone chips a month before and wet sanded back, keeping those areas as small as possible as it’s time consuming to blend sanded areas in without it looking super glossy against the surrounding paint.

Products used on the detail.
Meg’s clay
G3 & G6 where required for the deep scratches
M105 Ultra Cut
Hard pads and a lamb’s wool pad. Pads washed after every panel
M83 after the cutting and polishing
M205 and 3M polishing pads
BC-03 sealant

The skill is getting the lacquer warm enough so the compound cuts it. Its one of the hardest lacquers on a car, TVR being the hardest like glass. Hence finding a Maser with all over scratches means it’s been cleaned with ajax!

Roger, that looks incredible. Which products did you use?
