Anyone have any advice / experience with telescopic security bollards??
Putting up a cartlodge so guess it makes sense to drop a bollard in each bay (3) when the concrete is being poured. Any brand recommendations, minimum diametre & heights, any do’s / dont’s??
Thanks, Mark.

At a previous property I had one you raise up. (not telescopic) and no one nicked my car. So I guess it worked. Looked a bit unsightly though.

They are useless as if a scally wants your car they will just push it over with the car... as they did with the Xs Audi RS.

At the risk of sounding dim, why would you want to use these things, it's no different than having your car on your driveway surely? They're more for anti ram raiding and stopping unauthorised people from parking in allocated bays etc.

I guess the spec required depends very much on whether you are looking for a mild parking deterrent, a mild theft deterrent or a serious theft deterrent.

Retractable does look much better than fold-down, but if they go wrong ...
These look nice: https://www.barriersdirect.co.uk/bo...retractable-best-seller-hugely-reliable-p1249

Maybe one that lies flat in its own little covered trench is the ideal compromise.

Or remote control?

I'd like *something* to stop people turning around on our drive. It's not really designed for Amazon lorries and every other Tom, Dick or Harry

I was sat having lunch with the dashcam running , 2 women came out of a house in front of me ,jumped in their car , focus I think , set off and there was a loud crack as they ran into the security bollard

The bumper separated from each side of the car but the bollard stayed where it was , don't think that was how it was meant to work .

Rising bollards are like anything, the more you spend the better they get , this one still went up and down after this

How about a gate? I have never seen anyone get out of a car open a gate and then reverse up the drive to turn round

Thanks for the replies everyone, the links are useful. I think I just want something you lower and raise manually and lies flush with the ground so it’s out of sight when not in use. It’s not a thing of beauty and could be too much faff for regular use but must be a good extra deterant especially if you’ve gone away for a few days. The Defender is the more likely target......

Love the Wack61 YouTube video with classic under-statement “There’s no way it’s going anywhere after this....” which is probably just about true when the cab is 20 yards in front of the truck’s body....

Thanks again,

Mark.

I used one of those drop in bollards a few years ago to stop my stag being stolen from my garage, cost me two new rear bumpers over 8 months, I would start working on the car without moving it, then decide the car looked good enough for a drive out! next this was a loud bang and a lot of cursing to follow, car never got stolen though.
