I know this is a stupid and most likely not Maserati related question, but... My wife has developed tinitus and hyperacousis, which means any noise makes the tinitus worse. So she is struggling to travel. I therefore need a very very quiet car, with extremely good road noise and vibration absorbtion, as well as low wind noise and preferably no engine noise. Any suggestions as to where I might start with this? I have so far tried BMW - i3 (I had this already, and its my best shot at the moment) a Tesla S series (road and wind noise not that great really), and I also bought a diesel Citroen C6 which I think if it was petrol would be close but I can't find a petrol version in the UK, Any thoughts? Range rover? Mercedes of some description? Anyone got an extremely quiet and comfortable car they can suggest or reccomend?

Have you tried ear plugs? The Loop ones are really good :)

Recommendations for a car, have you considered a BMW Alpina? Mine is a beaut despite the massive alloys puts my standard BMW to shame.

Mercedes S class are the quietest cars I’ve ever been in, pick one from the last 20 years and they’re cheap 2nd hand.

If you’re looking at a regular hatch my mate who’s an automotive engineer is always banging on about how good the big standard mk7 Golf is when it comes to NVH.

Jaguar for me I can't believe how quiet my 2010 XF 3.0 D really is and one of the reasons I still have it.
Shows how good they were 50 years ago too.

Go for the ultimate - a Rolls Royce. It used to be said that the only thing you could hear when travelling in a RR was the ticking of the clock!

Any car with run flats will be noisy no matter what, so steer clear of those or plan to switch tyres. I would say Merc S not experienced Jag. All depends on budget I guess.

I understand the issue well as my partner has a similar condition - bizarrely her hearing aid reduces the Tinnitus?

The big lux barges like a BMW 7, S-class, Audi A8, Big XJ Jag would spring to mind, and some have double glazing... I guess it depends on your budget.

If at the lower end £££ wise, a V6 Peugeot 607 is very quiet and cost buttons now, or a Citron C6 V6

Firstly I really feel for your wife, tinnitus can be a devil to live with, I have been suffering for over 30 years and have never found a silver bullet in terms of coping. And still need to take myself to a quiet place after loud environments- thankfully it does not get worse with noise, but it’s harder to cope with on certain situations. She is lucky you understand her condition.
I drive a diesel Jaguar XJ and it’s very quiet, a previous one was even better with smaller wheels and bigger tyres and petrol would be even quieter.
I fear electric motor noise for any EV would really get under her skin, so would defined try a petrol XJ.
Where are you located, as I would be happy for you to test mine if you are anywhere near Hertfordshire.

I hope you find a solution, I guess she has tried notice cancelling headphones and white noise.

Modern hearing aids are tiny and can be got with noise cancelling features, Bluetooth and much more besides; they have the ability to control tinnitus, I don't have it all of the time but every now and then I'm very aware of it, I guess it will only get worse as I age. I will be an early adopter of any tech that can get rid or mask it. I can see how it drives people completely barking mad!

I have tinnitus in my left ear, manage most of the time, but getting difficult to hear quietly spoken people, or pick up a conversation in a noisy environment. NHS say I don't need hearing aids, private sector say I do, but they obviously have a vested interest!

S-class Merc or Lexus for sure.

Anything with double-glazed windows.

But also consider VW Phaeton. Dirt cheap. Luxurious. Quiet. I test-drove a V10 diesel (long story) and at idle I couldn't tell if the engine was running, either sitting inside or standing outside the car.
