Insurmountable differences?

I bought a 4.0 engine for a jaguar XK8 that came out of an XJ8, everything bar the block & heads had to be swapped over, cams were different, manifolds, sump, big job but doable

Having said that the 4200 engines seem reliable so not fast sellers, I'd think a decent offer to the seller of any engine for sale would probably result in a purchase but having bought an engine on a pallet once I wouldn't do it again unless I'd seen it running

This BMW engine I bought on a pallet didn't go so well
Yeah very similar it was Greg at Performance Car Parts who had a QP engine and although very similar lots of differences as the Coupe a different animal.
I didn't investigate further as I bought a new oil water pump unit and saved my car.

I'm really hesitant to start parting it out. Going to see if someone what's a project...

fleabay linky

Problem I think is with a salvage title and needing an engine or major rebuild it just won't make anything like what the parts are worth (if not in a rush and have storage and time). Just feels like giving money away for sentimental reasons! Just seams such a shame.

If I was still living in Somerset and being that you are in a neighbouring County that would have been right up my street.
I hope you find a enthusiast that will put her back on the road.

Take her to France - bring her back to life - sell her back in the UK ;)
That's a lot of effort and expense before you even start Sam.
Mine that I did in 2014 was an 04 car and not worth what they should be and now as a 20 year old car realistically what's it's top value ???
Maybe I should put my engine crane and tools into my Renault 4 and come over and do it.

I paid 9k for mine at historic auction a few years back... insurance have paid out just shy of 10k.
with the engines at 4k min the best I'd see would be 5k - and that's if folks didn't care about clean title etc and mines a "used" car with 82k miles.

Now on the other hand... and hyper conservatively. gbox 1k. wheels & tyres 1k. interior 1k. body panels 1k. suspension 1k. and your then left with a heap of other stuff plus an engine that's still worth a bit even in current state I guess. sucks. anyhow I've stuck on ebay/fb so will see if anyone wants to offer on it but I reckon I'm gonna be getting the spanners out!

I paid £5,000 for mine 10 years ago and back then it was a £15,000 car max.
I had people on here messaging me to buy it after I repaired it but she was so good I took her to New Zealand with me.
I spent £1,500 on parts and a lot of hours of my own time and Good Independent Specialist's giving me technical information as you won't find any in Autodata.
As I wasn't working getting ready to emigrate it was a Great Project that I thoroughly enjoyed doing all on the driveway and a lot of it on my back at 52 years of age then.

Nah, you don't wanna do that.

Rebuild the V8, fit it in the R4, and stick the rest of the 4200 on Ebay. Think of the hours of enjoyment you'd get in the process, and even more so when blow off the gendarmes who know an R4 can't be that fast.

I like your thinking but I don't think the body chassis or brakes will take 10 times the power and as someone else pointed out only 3 nuts holding each wheel on :)

accommodation provided, hoist provided - hmm... see a new airbnb advert.... "above garage studio apartment in north Devon just 20 mins from beach and with access to knackered Maserati and tools included..."
Tempting as Ms French loves a trip to the UK.
I should reciprocate as I have a lovely workshop here with my 45 years collection of tools and projects including:
Renault 16 TX
Citroen XM V6 24 valve
Opel Manta GSI
Just for starters in a lovely part of the Pays de Loire.

Such a pity you can't do it, these cars are worth so little with a cat marker unless you can do the work yourself the cost of an engine swap isn't viable at garage rates let alone a rebuild at £70 an hour plus parts

My twin brother is working for a Independent VW Audi Dealer in Tewkesbury and there £70/hour.
They get people driving from London to get their cars serviced as the Dealer there is £170 both plus Vat.

I'm sorry to hear you loss, looked like a pretty decent spyder.

At the start of the winter I happened to come across this short video about Astons exposure to water but may as well apply to Maseratis.

May I ask, whether the insurance paid up the value mentioned but required the car as a swap for their payment., Or paid up without requiring them to take the car away?

Do you want to message me his details - I've just bought an RS3 and avoid MD's (tho the one I bought it from is currently being quite helpful)
