Small vibration at 150MPH

I was chatting to a local in a German bar about autobahn speeds when I was over there recently. He was saying that in the event of an accident at speeds over 130kmh the driver is automatically held 50% to blame regardless of who's fault it is. How true that is I don't know. Daytime driving is actually quite difficult to get to silly speeds, but night times are a lot more entertaining if you're trundling along at about 130kmh, with fast cars coming past very quickly. I've had mine up to 140mph for most of a tank of fuel and although it would easily do more, that was plenty fast enough on a public road. Apart from that, Toni was asleep at the time and if she'd woken up I'd have been in all sorts of trouble.

She "discovered" the fact when we arrived at the hotel somewhat earlier than expected, as which point I fessed up. :) To be fair, she's much better with speed as a passenger than she used to be when we first got together, although she's not exactly slow herself when she's driving.

It's a section of Autobahn mate where there is no speed limit. I think you have to drive one to appreciate the lane discipline and just how safe they are when drivers actually stick to the rules. OK there's no accounting for a blowout or suchlike at higher speeds which will undoubtedly be more dangerous at 150mph than 75 mph but that's a risk that the driver must take.

Spot on. I must admit I'm surprised that anyone who spends so much more than necessary on a car capable of 170mph, fitted with Y speed-rated tyres (186mph/300kph), should be so shocked by the fact that people can actually exploit their performance safely and routinely in Germany. Absolutely vast numbers of people routinely drive their 2 litre diesels at 100-120mph. Vans and camper vans are driven at 80-100mph. Trucks are not allowed into the left hand lane of 2-lane motorway sections where there's no limit.

There's a lot to explain about German autobahn driving. I'm tempted to write an article on it for the IAM magazine (been a member for 32 years - motorcycle & car tests passed - not that it makes me a perfect driver, which I'm not, but it tells you I'm a thinking driver who's passed a bit more than the basic test).

Couldn't agree with Corranga, Contigo and Mr K more.

Mr K your reply....couldn't have said it better myself, experienced exactly as you stated in June on the autobahn. Its a great experience if you haven't done it.

Write your article and post it he as well...I for one will enjoy reading it.

We drive car's build by two of the most famous companies in the world....Maserati and Ferrari.....I don't think we need to question the car's credentials
