Going to a track day in goodwood next week....keep having to tell myself that the maser is NOT the car for that track
the first Maser track day we did was at Goodwood a few years ago, the only time I took my old 3200 on a track. It was very well suited to the circuit - long straights and long, fast corners. I had virtually no tyre wear, but remember the brakes smoking a bit after a long succession of laps. The instructors were also excellent. One drove my car first to show me the circuit and lines to take. It was great to sit in the passenger seat and see a 'real' driver take control and show me that the ca was way more capable than my driving skills! I'd definitely do it again.Going to a track day in goodwood next week....keep having to tell myself that the maser is NOT the car for that track
Your experience seems quite common, Peter. I've not done Llandow as I not think it would suit my car (or pocket by the sounds of things!!)Re front tyres...my were shot after my first Llandow. ..lots of tread left but you could not tell the brand as the sholder on the NSF was bald...it was the chicanes that took their toll. Llandow is a great budget track day but to short for a big GT in my humble opinion.
Lack of pressure causes that. Exactly the same with me last time there. Set the tyres at a pressure that gave even temp across the tread and it killed the sidewalls. This time I ignored the temps and took it up to 40psi. Hardly any wear on the sidewall this time out. I blame this fad for ultra low profiles, if I were getting a set of wheels and tyres for track use I'd go down an inch or two on the wheel size.Re front tyres...my were shot after my first Llandow. ..lots of tread left but you could not tell the brand as the sholder on the NSF was bald...it was the chicanes that took their toll. Silverstone would be more fun, but potentially much more expensive if you get it wrong!Your experience seems quite common, Peter. I've not done Llandow as I not think it would suit my car (or pocket by the sounds of things!!)
Nah, these are easy cars to catch compared to a mid engined car. The problem I have with goodwood is that in getting up to speed sometimes I get it wrong. On most circuits getting the back end out too far is fine (ask Andy, with him in the pax seat I buggered up the one corner at Llandow and ended up looking at the circuit though the side window but plenty of time and space to recover it). At goodwood I always feel that if I did that there'd be no second chance!^^^^^^^^^
I think you're too brave if anything!
It's only the bus stop where the car feels a little lairy; so you go in a little slower and more controlled on a better racing line and all of a sudden you're going through there fast enough to keep a lotus honest! By the time you're on the start of the back straight you've caught him again.

Love Goodwood. Tool the M3 CSL there back in 2009 with the Maserati Forum lot....Very fast track and suited the Maseratis as well but as you say run off in some places a bit scary.
