Sorting out my GS

Morning all,

I finally collected my new silver 07-plate GranSport from Autoficcina yesterday. It's looking lovely, having had a load of work done to it before collection (fitting the H pipe Benny sent me, fitting the DBW module, a major service, a full interior and exterior detail, and a few cosmetic tweaks including new carpets and a little carbon-effect wrap for the little plastic interior door panels).

I'll post photos at the weekend when I take some nice ones.

There is still quite a bit to do to make it spot-on however - and grateful for any views:

1. Stereo - I'd like to upgrade the stereo to something with bluetooth and MP3, so a simple but good quality (and not too silly looking) unit is on the cards. A little research finds the word "mechless" is now in use in such circles - and as I have no need of a CD player any longer, that seems like the right approach (for those, like me the other day, who'd never heard the word - it just means there are no moving parts - so no tape or CD player, nor is there fit an 8-track slot). Anyone had any issues with fitting standard single-DIN stereos to a GS? I found Matt's post on speaker upgrades - which I may well emulate at some point too.

2. The Maserati logo on the bootlid is a little corroded.

Ilyas at Autofficina suggested painting it, or perhaps somehow polishing it. Has anyone seen this before and proven a fix?

3. When reversing, I get a continuous beep, even when I'm not close to anything, which I don't think is right. Isn't it supposed to beep beep beep until I get close to something?

4. Still unsure if I like the colour and style of the interior carpet. Has anyone replaced this in theirs and know a) how much a OEM carpet (i.e. not just the mats) would be, and b) how easy or not it would be to fit?

Thanks

Ben.

I replaced the stereo in mine with a mechless Alpine unit with bluetooth, DAB, phone etc. Easy to do and a massive jump in technology. I basically use Spotify 90% of the time and listen to either Kisstory or TalkSport the rest of the time. No need for physical media at all although it does have a USB slot for mp3s if you like.

The badge is easy and very cheap to replace. It's a 10 minute job and costs about £20.

Sounds like the sensors are not working correctly....

No idea about the carpet....

As Outrun has stated the badge is simple and cheap.

Your reversing system is currently broken. It's likely to be a broken sensor:

Ignition on
Foot on brake
Select reverse
Place finger on each sensor head in turn (or you can stick your ear really close). You'll either feel (or hear) the sensors 'tick'

The one(s) that aren't ticking are bust.

Bumper off job. You can either use Maserati units at £78+ each
or generic Alfa units at £13.99. You'd need to replace all 4 with the Alfa as they look slightly different.

The angle of the connector block is critical, get it wrong and you can either not fit to the bumper, or not connect it up, I seem to remember the BMW version was the right angle..??

I seem to remember somebody using a BMW sensor and that worked..??

That is correct, I had one when the body shop broke one putting it on, they got it from a salvage yard, not sure which model, ill do some Googling...

Morning all,

.

As I was backing into the drive, I realised I may have read this wrong.

When you engage reverse you get a short, deep(ish) tone, followed by a continuous high pitched beeping.

As you near an obstacle you get lower, slightly longer tones that get longer and longer until it's a continuous tone indicating that you are no within wallet range of an obstruction.

The high pitch beeping continues all the time reverse is selected.

Hope that makes sense.

Well the faces are different, so you'd need to replace all 4 again.

It is the same maybe the connector is slightly different styles make sure you get that too from the scrappy.

Once fitted on my old Grigio GS you could not tell the difference.

Thanks chaps - great feedback and advice as always.

Catman - the beeping you describe is what I expected (same as my old 4200). I'll have a play around with it at the weekend, but actually I expect Autofficina may offer to fix it for me anyway if it's buggered. Isn't the problem with replacement sensors though that they're not panted the right colour?

The original sensors have a flat section top and bottom of the sensor face (you can see in Matt's photo). The Alfa ones I used were round. I just had the lot replaced as it was as cheap as buying a *new* flat type.
They all needed painting.
