I know that was raised before Brendan, but not sure we got absolute clarity on that.

I guess finding a wheel the same diameter wouldn't be that difficult but lining up the holes might be trickier

THAT does not look like the spare that would fit a 4200

Also missing compressor & special lenght wheel nuts

The right wheel offset is a bigger issue that the stud spacing. Housing the front brakes on the 4200/GS was the major problem I encountered when looking at alternatives and I spoke to any number of wheel manufacturers. In the end a proper one popped up on the US site for $850 so I bought that. Mind you shipping to Oz was $300 bucks!!! Whole shooting match weighed about 56kg

Thinking about this, you could have a batch made to spec or similar and I'm sure the cost would be far less....I had a set of alloys manufactured for my Caterham R500 andthe cost was sensible.....would just need a wheel as a sample and enough people to want to buy one.

Good idea Matt......any contact you can suggest to kick things off?

Guys I think you will find that the special tyre you need to go on the rim is pretty expensive and Iunderstand the rimofthe space saver wheel is special to accomodate the tyre. Suggest you check that out before you go too far down the wheel production route. The point being that if the whole thing won't sit down in your wheel well, and forthat you need a spacesaver tyre, then you might just as well by a second hand 4200 front wheel and
tyre and stand it in the boot.

The free space under the boot floor is very handy though!
My old Elise did not have a spare, so I carried as well as the tyre foam a tyre repair kit to plug any holes from a removed nail etc. without removing the tyre from the rim.
Not ideal, but hopefully with the foam and plug kit the odds are low that you are not stuck.

Hi all,

Just seen this ad and crickey the costs are mega for the spare wheel and have always been so, what I would add to this one comes it has a jack - bargain!!!!

I have purchased the spare wheel in the last couple of years and never used it, what this is, is an insurance policy!

If you have a puncture great but have a blow out/side wall go no tube of foam will fix it.

Cheers Paul L

It was the idea of a blowout that convinced me for the need to carry a wheel. Unlike the UK there is quite a distance between towns in Oz so if you have a problem then its a long wait for a truck to arrive and an expensive ride to get it home again. I figure when I sell the car, if ever, there will be plenty of buyers for the wheel so its really cheap insurance.

That's really expensive and looks to have quite a bit of damage on it..?? There was one sold last year for I think around £120 on eBay.
