Spare wheel...some thoughts!

Ok, so I picked up a puncture today on a rear tyre.....the sealant approach failed - no surprise.

Jacked up the car and got the old tyre on ( thanks SportsItalia for using a torque wrench on those bolts!) and the foam boot liner made a great groundsheet to lay on.

Inflated the new space saver wheel lowered the car and cushti.....er No.

I am moving house today and the boot was full. The rear tyre FILLS the boot......rapid repacking and I looked like the worlds tightest Maser driver going camping in Devon....rear windscreen...chocca.

Despite this - thank god I had it!

Any views on the tyre plug kits which are available? Got to be better than the sealing cans and in an emergency???

I carry something like this

Works really well and tyre can’t be repaired correctly afterwards with no fuss.

The only problem is, you have to be able to locate the puncture

Usually the nail is a clue.

@allandwf , have you ever used it or a least attempted a fix on an old tyre?

Used mine two weeks ago. Took 30 mins... hardest bit was the quick extraction of the tool to leave the sticky nylon in place. But got it to work after a few goes. Then drove 80 miles on it no problem. Two days later, took it to a local tyre specialist who fixed it properly for £40.
