Hi there,

Does anyone know which are the correct plugs for 03 plate 4200:-

NGK Spark Plug - PMR8A
Or
NGK Spark Plug - PMR8B

Couple of websites i've visited don't give the option of choosing pre 2004 4200's so im a little unsure.

Cheers
Marcus

NGK PMR8A (PLATINUM) but you can use "B" as well.

Other (even better) Spark Plug alternatives:
NGK IRIDIUM IX CR8EIX (Iridium)
DENSO IU24 (Iridium)

Currently I use the NGK IRIDIUM IX CR8EIX. They are a bit more expensive than platinum ones, but Iridium has the highest melting point of all known metals, so I expect them to last longer and give pay off. They have a wide temperature range, so you never get any cylinder knocking caused by glowing electrods at high loads, still they are good at cold starts (have started at -20ºC in Sweden). I'll never tried the Denso ones, but they are also highly recommended in many Maserati forums. Never the less, the NGK PMR8A & B are also good ones. I'll take precautions with the iridium ones since I'll stress the engine on the race tracks and the drag strip.

All NGK plugs with an "8" in the ref number are the same heat range. Going to a colder 9 plug for track work will only make your car a pig to start and it will flood. I used to run a 160bhp/litre normally aspirated touring car+ spec engine with 12.8 compression ratio and 9800rpm. Even that only ran NGK "8"s. Race plugs were a total PITA. The "8"s never melted.

Given that getting the plugs out is a good 30 mins work, and the need to change for new after a flood is advised, deviation from the standard plug is a bad idea.

Be aware that Champions heat ranges go the other way so a 9 is a warm plug for low power engines, a 6 is for a full blown race engine.

Also you can get the standard NGK PMR8A or B plugs on ebay for around £70/set of 8, which is excellent value.

I've never heard that - lots of people on here running with Densos too. What problems have you heard of?

One member I know discovered he'd a problem after fitting same....Marios sorted him out!
