Matt,

Two questions please:-

1. Could we have a Features Request, or Feedback, page somewhere? Maybe in the Announcements forum.

2. Can I kick off with a request for a Thanks button and count on posts? Many forums are providing this now and it does encourage forum participation, traffic and community.

Cheers

Michael

Sure, we are always open to suggestions to make the forum a better place to spend time.

Can you expand on point 2?

Give me a link to an example as I am not quite sure I understand you.

Say for instance I post this now and it is a helpful post (which I am sure it will be as I am informing you of what a thanks button and concept it) then you would click the "Thanks" button. You can see in the example someone called nutter45 has thanked me for posting a pic of my 3200.

I am not disagreeing with introducing a Thanks button, but merely stating what I have seen to be the effect.

On another car forum a more technical forum member used to post helpful comments. He used to get a fair bit of "Thanks" as a result. It then became an expectation that whenever he posted something technical the whole forum would thank him. This then led to it being considered bad form to ever say anything critical about this forum member. That I think is a very negative effect.

A "Thanks" button can also promote sucking-up, which is not a desirable trait.

The other thing is that we don't want to start a competition of "Number of Thanks Received", nor for the number of "Thanks" to have a bearing on whether one forum member is more "important" than another.

Just my view of what happened on another forum, there's nothing to say it would have the same effect here. It all depends on the forum and its members.

I think we have a good style on here where if we are within our rights we can post negatively about anyone, even the sponsors. Also, when someone posts something helpful, someone responds saying thanks.

Just my two pennies...

My opinion, to which anyone may attach any value that they feel is appropriate, I don't think it adds much. For forums where lots of people drop in and out to have a singe question answered, it's a quick and easy way to say thanks, and not have to actually post that, nor go back to see what else is going on.
Here we seem to meet in real life far more often than any other forum I've been on, so a beer button may be more appropriate at the bar :)

Here it is in action (on a post referring to a certain crystal meth taking Reverend). My thanks is already in there so the option available in this example is 'Remove Your Thanks'

Why all the 'thanks' for a one liner about a drug pushing priest? I don't get it. If someone finds a particular post helpful. I think it's better to say it in a post as we already do. Please let's not go down the 'liking' or 'trending' path of twatter or facefook or introduce any other such banalities.

I find it useful on things like MSE nr HUKD where you can use the thanks or heat to gauge the popularity of a post or deal etc but can't really see the merit of it on a car enthusiasts forum.

Must admit this one is not doing a lot for me either. I think, as has been said above, members will purely hit the "Thanks" button instead of actually replying.

Thanks for the suggestion though all input is always welcomed.

Another request:

Could we have a font colour change, or underline, for links please?

At the moment they're rendered the same as the surrounding text and you don't know it's a link unless you mouse-over them.

Here's an example.

That would be really helpful - I've seen people have to explain that there is a link in their post. It does add a treasure hunt type feel, which is always childish good fun, but maybe showing hyperlinks in blue would be easier.
