Ewan/Andy, this is the car I referenced in the other thread. It came back up for sale recently. It could well be for sale and it looks like a great car. Get in touch via the EBay link on first post.

Well, I bought the red one that was on eBay. Not sure what happened back in February but the guy didn't in fact sell it so he relisted it and after not selling again I went and took a look. He was a nice enough guy but not very approachable which I think will have put a few people off. Once I had been to see it and he realised I wasn't a time waster he opened up and suddenly brought out all the original service and handbook folders, spare keys, and a huge folder of receipts and mot's. New tyres, hood, seat belts and a recent service.

The car was great and I paid a little over £11k which I was very happy with although it still needed a few things sorting.

I've since replaced engine mounts, steering belts, suspension bushes, and all fluids (including oil as I didn't know what had been used) and now it's just having a few paint bubbles around the windscreen sorted.

The only thing it still needs is a replacement ECU because the fuel mixture potentiometer is knackered (arriving next week) and, if I can find them, a set of rear cushions. Other than that it is perfect and I'm very pleased.

Well done, I did consider it myself.

The weak spot on these models are the front and rear bulkheads. You might we well prepared to expect some welding when you investigate that bubbling paint round the front screen.

I am sure some fettling and you will have a very nice car there.

Too right. Managed to get it all exposed without taking the screen out and dug out a lot of old fibreglass repair and filler. I've bonded a new metal repair plate (about 2" x 2") into place with chemical metal so as to avoid the need for welding because, to be honest, I think you could easily chase the problem over a huge area if not careful. It's now almost completely sorted but with these cars I am fully expecting to have more bubbling appear elsewhere at some point.

When these cars are worth >£50k it will be worth a full strip and repaint but until then, and while it's mechanically and cosmetically sound, it will be fine with sensible repairs.

Pictures to follow.

Glad it went to someone on here. The only negative for me was an auto box!

Enjoy it!

Why would the auto be a negative on a classic spyder, you are not exactly going to hoon it about?

I was tempted myself but it dropped off the radar so I guessed it was sold.

My thoughts exactly. I think I would have preferred a manual but the couple I looked at were really dreadful cars. Really shocking.

The auto box is really surprisingly good though. Very sharp and responsive but it's not a car I'll be looking to smoke about in so suits me fine.

Glad you are pleased with it.
I was trying to find links to it when Richard Grace car came up and given geography involved it was much easier to do a deal with Richard.
Sure they are worth £50k already!! ;-)

That's a beautiful car you got yourself. Lovely colour. Our cars would photograph nicely together.
