I'm getting some white smoke on start up from cold. Is this terrible news or just bad? It does not smell oily and disappears after a minute at most

Any thoughts most welcome

Probably just condensation water boiling off in the cold exhaust. If your coolant level is fine, I'd not be over worried.

They occasionally do this. Mine tends to do it n starting when really hot. I have heard an explanation but can't remember what is was; I stopped listening when he said its normal as long as it stops! I'm pretty sure it's Ok.

Generally white smoke is moisture, blue oil and black fuel.
As Mr C says if your coolant levels are static it is not coming from within the system.

Yes mine will do this when its been stood for along time or the battery has been off. Have you had a flat battery?

I believe its just the self learn of the ECU after battery drain.

We had a flat battery a few months ago but the smoke is newer than that. I 'll watch the coolant level
Thanks Mike

Ps new serious issue now arisen - new post coming

Amusingly, Mike, you've beaten me to putting up a similar post! Fears allayed! I had a horrible hypochondriac moment that someone would respond that the cats were going or something similarly annoying. I'm very pleased there's a reasonable and non-concerning explanation.

It could be antifreeze leaking because of a iffy head gasket while its been standing for awhile

like Mike says keep an eye on the coolant level...
