It arrived today and is slightly different, but only the aluminium casting. A simple removal of 4 torx screws on the original and 4 Allen bolts on the new one, swap over and hey presto!
The top one in the picture is the new starter with the old casting it took longer to type this post than it did to swap over.
I just wish it was as easy to refit!

The electrical connector may be different so might need cutting off and a hoop connector putting on the new one instead.

Yes it does need that as well
Another easy adaption. The old starter is completely jammed I can barely turn it when pinion wheel is held in a vice.
Must be a catestrophic internal failure

Well I finally took the old starter apart , quite easy, couple of bolts and it prises apart.

The brush end was completely destroyed, just a load of broken plastic and greasy dust. When I prised out the armature you can see a magnet is missing, this explains the dust and why it was impossible to turn even in a vice!

The magnets come unglued from the outer casing and then jam the armature, the later Peugeot starters have the magnets clipped in so they can't come loose

Apart from that they don't give any trouble..

Finally someone managed to take his old defective starter apart.
This destroys the tale that usually users spread when they blame water leaks for the fault.
It seems these starters are just a pile of ****.
As far as I heard there are starters from Bosh available? Should get one of these to make it more reliable.

That's exactly what I bought and all for £70 delivered next day
I have NO intention of taking it apart to see if it is any different!

The magnets should be fixed to the outside casing, clearly in my case they are not!

You might want to check though as it took two starter motors on my old 3200 to eventually get the later version..

Both were Bosch branded...hope there better built than the power tools they sell!

A mate has a new 650S spider and his battery won't hold charge. It appears that when it was in the body shop (after he was rear ended) they used a battery booster to start it and cooked the gel battery. However, they are unlikely to cough when they find out they cost £2500 to replace so it looks like he will have to stump up for a new one. Let's think ourselves reasonably lucky!

It's nothing to do with water...on 3200's if you have good battery and the starter still sounds sluggish It's most likely one of the magnets has come loose.

They'll still work for awhile until the internal damage gets terminal..

I'm sorry. £2500? In the name of God *why*?
