Have a 4200 which ran fine about a year ago but its hazard lights kept flashing. Having opened its key and noticed a broken contact for the micro switch, it seems this was not working and probably could not turn off the alarm. (The Engine however used to run). Got a new Car battery today and on turning on the ign, its KEY ALARM light flashes twice on the dash panel and then goes off. Engine cranks but does not start. Haz lights flashing and do not go off. Need to understand the system. Does the Alarm system/ Haz lights flashing suppress a few things? Disconnected the noisy Batt alarm from the rear boot. Thought the starting of engine is linked to the Magnetic part embedded in the key FOB which is in tact. Have a spare key FOB from a 3200 with exactly similar numbers as this one. Both are single button FOBs. Can they be interchanged or are they programmed for a specific car? If the Key FOB has nothing to do with Engine starting, should I start looking at stuff like fuel pump etc (Seen many pumps get destroyed with gunk when not used for a while.) Any feedback from other user is much appreciated,
OK let's start at the beginning.
The Hazard lights are run by the alarm, and only the alarm. Same with the door central locking. You can start the car fine with the alarm going.
When you change the car battery, the alarm will go off immediately, It assumes that someone has tried to steal the car.
So can you press the button on the key to arm / disarm the alarm and turn the hazard lights off? If not that's problem one. Your key will need to be coded to the central locking. That's normally done with a working key. It's quite a simple process. Simpler still is to stand next to the car and press the button on the fob twice, quickly. If the codes have got out of sync, this will re-sync them. Try that, then try to arm the alarm again.
For the car to start, the transponder chip in the key (tiny little thing that tends to drop out when people take the keys apart....) needs to be successfully interrogated and give a code which matches the records stored in the car's ECU. If either of those bits fail, your car will crank, but not start.
If you have the code card that BL330 references you can use the emergency process to start the car. This doesn't 'enter' anything in the car. You'll need to do it *every* time you want to start...
Emergency starting
If the Maserati CODE is unable to deactivate the engine immobilizer, the warning light CODE remains on, whereas the warning light EOBD switches off for four seconds to come on again immediately, and the engine does not start. The engine can only be started with the emergency procedure.
WARNING: Each key supplied has its own specific code, which must be stored in the memory of the system control unit.
WARNING: It is recommended to read the whole procedure through carefully before carrying it out.
If an error is made, turn the key back into position STOP And repeat the procedure starting from step 1.
1) Read the 5-digit electronic code found on the CODE CARD.
2) Turn the key to position MAR: at this point, the CODE and EOBD warning lights stay on.
3) press the accelerator pedal down and keep it pressed. After about 8 seconds, the warning light EOBD switches off. Release the accelerator pedal and count the number of times the warning light EOBD flashes.
If you don't have the card you're probably a bit stuck. Pretty sure the 3200 key won't work at all, and certainly without coding, I suspect your only answer would be to go to a dealer.
