Steering Rack refurb 3200 GT (AC)

Another steering rack thread, as I didn’t want to hijack Oneball’s thread.

My AC has a tiny bit of play on the long end of the steering rack (RH side, since my car is LHD). It isn’t an MOT failure but if there are opportunities to have this fixed without ordering a new steering rack, then I would be very interested. Question: does anyone have any experience with machining new bushes in order to eliminate play?

I’ve refurbished racks before but always with bushes off the shelf, some nylon, some metal. Most modern racks are nylon.

I couldn’t find any bushes specifically for the 3200GT so got a second hand rack. It is a TRW rack so I’m sure they’re available from somewhere.

When I’ve got some time I can pull the old one apart.
