Stradale modifications

So..

I'm seriously considering making a couple of nice mods to my Stradale. I've decided to keep it long term - like forever - while I wait for an Alfieri or simple decide to buy something else to sit alongside it. Given that it's out of warranty (no comment!), I see no reason not to make some nice changes that are easily switched back if the notion takes me.

I'd like to do some of the following...

Exhaust - I already have a Larini club sport X-Pipe. I could also add either the 200cell cats or the switchable back boxes. One or the other. Which would you do and why? I'm not looking for Contigo loud (before he replies), more about enhancing, even further, the fantastic noise that it already makes. More pops and bangs would be nice.

Spacers - I like the idea of the FD spacer kit, even if it is £520 with bolts. It's set at 22mm front and 25mm rear. I've done this to other cars without issue and actually had a chat with Matt about it recently. I told him I wouldn't do it but then the wind direction changed.....

Ride height - As with all Maseratis, it sits a little high, particularly at the back. I could pick up some FD lowering springs or just have an expert adjust the suspension accordingly as it is adjustable. I know I'll need to do alignment afterwards before anyone mentions it. I don't want to dramatically harm the ride but I do want it to look a little better.

Looks - My car is black, as most of you know. It's actually Nero Pastello which is gloss black, non-metallic. This is very rare probably because the metallic is easier to live with. Really, the front needs painted now but I'm loathe to do this and then go to Le Mans (said this last year too!). I'm therefore thinking seriously about wrapping it. I know I'll need to paint it one day anyway so I'm less concerned about the supposed paint damage and all that jazz. I reckon a good wrap for a year or two, just for a change. What do you reckon? The other possibility is to get some subtle stripes on it, maybe a trident on the roof etc. In that case, I'd go for a matt black and make it not very obvious. I don't want the full Viper look that I also see on Vauxhall Corsas.

Roll Cage - Matt, where are we on this? I'd love to get that in place, harnesses and all. Totally love them.

Opinions welcome.

Yes to all of that.

Exhaust: fit valved back boxes, so at least you have some control/choice. 200 cell cats will just mean it's crazy loud all the time (which is not very grown up), so give them a miss.

Spacers: yes.

Ride height: yes to having it lowered. But I doubt you need to actually buy any thing new. Just adjust what you have.

Looks: repaint the front, but then use a clear protective wrap. And a matt black Trident on the roof, just for fun.

Job done.

From me, yes to some of it. I’d planned on lowering mine until I got the spacers. They solved the ‘too-high’ appearance. I’d personally get narrower spacers than 25/22. Isn’t the Strad wheel more offset already than the standard GTS? You could end up a bit Fast ‘n’ Furious if you’re not careful.

As for the stripe, satin gunmetal would look amazing against your black. Think 599 GTO.

Agree with most of the above. 200 cell will make it too loud in my opinion.
Back boxes and a wrap should do the trick.

Sports cats with x pipe should work well

What’s wrong with H&R spacers? That’s what I run, I believe 22 front and 25 rear was about £300

My s is slammed on original adjusted suspension, no issues, it does need the camber sorting if you go as far as me though

Why the valved back boxes? you already have them OEM. I'm obviously not getting something here.

The rest sounds great. Some of my OCD notes: the spacers will increase already (IMHO) bad chipping along the back of the arches and rear 1/4 panel. But, as mentioned above, would also 'soften' the suspension and lower the car.

Regarding the springs (more OCD) they would put the neutral point of the shock lower. Its a valving and travel issue. I saw an amazing how-to of a South African, or maybe Aussie. who lowered his stradale properly: the whole damper was shortened by a Bilstein certified workshop. Thousands probably.

Regarding painting again, in the long term, it does not seem to harm 'classic' cars to have a little paint once in a while to keep things looking nice. My mate has a 458 speciale with a pebble-dashed nose. He does not lose much sleep.

The most important things are: A. keep the car for ever and B. Enjoy the **** out of the ownership.

Spacers everytime on a GT's .... The Stradale was slightly better than the rest of the range still not perfect and those wheels def need to be pushed out.....ride height was also better than rest of the range but a little lower would look better. This was the one are that Maserati just can't get right looks wish on the GT so think your car would look the business when done.

Drifting already chaps! Why am I not surprised to see Chris and Adam in the thick of it....

So the consensus so far seems to be that spacers are good (although there is an H&R alternative), lower is good but just by adjusting the suspension and then setting it up correctly. I agree that the back boxes are a better ida than cats as I would prefer to be able to "just" use sport mode when I'm not in the mood for race mode. And a few subtle stripes and/or roof trident seems cool too.

Just going to change the batteries in my man maths calculator. They were used up when I bought my latest motorbike a couple of months ago!

Buying a motorbike in the middle of winter Athol, I suspect the man-maths Calculator came up with win-win on that one!

Strangely enough the exhaust thing kept me awake last night (a bit of stress at work too, to be honest) but: have a couple of straight through pipes made from the xpipe back. Should only cost a couple of hundred, will save about 40Kg (!) and sound great. In this scenario, keep the regular cats. The existing rear valved boxes we have are very convoluted, even when bypassed. The 200 cell cats, even though I have never heard them, scare me. Not to mention the price...

As far as the exhaust goes, keep the OEM boxes, add the sports cats and ditch the X pipe for an H pipe.....perfect all round performance!

Dem’s been going to the dogs for years; still does, every time he swipes right. :)

This is my Stradale - with roll cage from factory and I recently put the harnesses in via EuroSpares. It has the spacers and it is slightly lowered.

Is this the type of look you are after? BTW, I've not gone with the Larini's yet however I did get some braided brake lines fitted - I hated the stock feel of the pedal under heavy braking.
