I've sold the MG Midget, got good money for it too. The first person to come and see it bought it,and didn't try to chip down the price!!!!
So I've now got a new project for the Summer......................................
Rather a LOT of work to do, but it'll stop me getting bored!

Good luck with it - love the wheels & wing mirrors but mostly the shape of the roof sloping down to the horizontal rear wing - very nice.

The car is a Gilbern GT, the only production car to be made in WALES.
They were made from 1965 until the late 70's early 80's. The later cars were called Mk2 and Genie.
The fibre glass body has already been off, and the chassis fully restored and galvanised/repainted,the
body has had the underside resealed, all seams redone, and re flow coated, and has been refitted.
Mine is a 1965 car, but registered Jan. 1st 1966. There were boxes of new parts for the car, as the previous
owner does not have the time to finish it. It had spent the last 25 years in a field under a tarpaulin!!!!
It has all MGB mechanicals, so easy to work on and get parts.
Here are some Pics. of how it will look.

I was close enough what's my prize ?

I use to have a friend who had a Gilbern Invader in yellow surprisingly called The Daffodil :)

My next door neighbour had a Gilbern until 2 years ago. He had had it from new and stripped and rebuilt it a couple of times. His left yellow, not sure on original colour. When he sold it a guy sent his "man" to pick it up. Apparently a collector who paid full asking price without seeing it. The guy who collected it (on a trailer) said it was by fat the best he had collected for his "boss" who had a few of them.

I used to love hearing it start up and that extra special smell of fuel / exhaust!!!

A good B-series engine shouldn't be difficult to find, you can do so much with them... Or just stick a six pot in?

hk: Congrats on an interesting project and a great little car! Apologies if you already know this, but as it has been sat in a field under a tarpaulin for 25 years it's a prime candidate for a problem that afflicts GRP. Did you have any groups or lines of microblisters/bubbles on the paint? If so, when you have sanded them down you may see them re-appear after a week or so on the base coat, as brown marks. Don't just paint over them! That's glass fibre osmosis which needs to be properly treated otherwise the bubbles will simply recur on the finished paint. Easy to do, just labour intensive: you need a special epoxy filler and countersink/fill each hole. PM if you need details as I had to have this done to my Jensen.

The body has been off the car and the underside cleaned and re-flo-coated, the outside, once I have stripped ALL the old paint off down to the gel coat, will be painted by an expert in fibre glass bodies. It will cost me a LOT of dosh!!!
