I’ve just read that Terry Hall of The Specials has died aged just 63.

I grew up with ska and the 2-Tone movement, I shall listen to a few tracks tonight and raise a glass to a man who left an impression on my formative years.

Not a fan of their music myself but very sad and very young. He did bump into me once as I was walking down Oxford Street.

One of the first records I ever bought. My dad always reminded me that he used to have a Vauxhall Cresta as well.

Also looks like some of the video was shot down Bermondsey Street. I used to walk through that tunnel every day on the way to work.

The club mentioned in Ghost Town and in Friday Night, Saturday Morning is certainly the Locarno in Coventry and that is where thew band hail from
I know they’re from Coventry. I grew up in the West Midlands. They often said that the song wasn’t about Coventry but the state of the country. Quote on the song:

“The country was falling apart. You travelled from town to town and what was happening was terrible. In Liverpool, all the shops were shuttered up, everything was closing down. Margaret Thatcher had apparently gone mad, she was closing down all the industries, throwing millions of people on the dole. We could actually see it by touring around. You could see that frustration and anger in the audience. In Glasgow, there were these little old ladies on the streets selling all their household goods, their cups and saucers. It was unbelievable. It was clear that something was very, very wrong.”

Didn't realise that as a 12 year old he was abducted by a teacher and taken to France and abused for 4 days then dumped on the street :(
