The first and last quarter of the fuel gauge

What sort of twisted evil manifests itself in those regions of the fuel gauge?

Why is it after i fill to the brim with fuel, I can travel only ~13 miles before the needle is on 1/4, and no, I'm not driving like Nigel Mansell!

The next 2/4 of the gauge deplete as one would expect... till it's time to hunt for her next drink... the last 1/4 seemingly moving every time I take my eye from it!

Mine goes mental with a massive graphic of a petrol pump and a warning about limited cruising range, check it in the info screen and it says like 85 miles left...

I find it different! FIrst half goes twice as far :)

Yep same on the 4200... Especialy if I brim the tank it seems to go on for a long time with the needle jammed up to full... The sensor must be quite far down or the filler neck can fit 20 litres above where the sensor starts

I thought it was me because my motorbike and my QP are exactly the same. The first quarter, even the first half, passes very slowly but once they reach the last quarter their tanks drop like they've been holed.

It nearly caught me out on Sunday, I went for an early morning blast around the Cotswolds with friends, in Chipping Norton the others filled up and my gauge was telling me I still had three quarters remaining so I thought I was fine, how wrong I was, I had to annoy the rest of the group by making another petrol stop later on.

My Stag once brimmed reads just over 3/4, and when it reads 1/4 it means you will be walking very soon!

First quarter (well over the full marker) seems to last for 100 miles on steady motorway. Then once under 3/4 it's drink time! I'm still amazed at how far a tank of fuel can get you in the GTS.

Have you ever had a car with a fuel gauge which actually records correctly - is isn't an exact science?
Mind you the 4200 is in a league of its own.

You need a Supercharged V8 Range Rover, on full throttle the needle on the fuel gauge can move faster than Usain Bolt
