Update on this: the car is still at Maserati for damage assessment by an independent assessor from the tow Incident. See here https://www.sportsmaserati.com/index.php?threads/warning-towing-winching-a-qpv.35205/page-2So the dealer had a look and problem was no fuel. They took out the fuel tank to check the pump and in doing so it started to work again. They jiggled all connectors and suggested we try it again. Alternative is fit a new pump but we don’t know for sure that was the problem. It could have been stuck or a bad connection. Cost of pump £650 so I’ll first check it out. Cost to diagnose, dismantle and re-fit £70. Then a oil/filter/air filter/new brake fluid service as nearly due for £560 including towing it in. I reckon not too bad.
But whilst they had it the fuel starvation problem arose again and they actually found the cause. There was no voltage on the fuel pump connector. Totally random but the fuel pump fuse is a bolt on affair on the positive battery plate. Someone had put an M6 nut on the M5 thread and it must have loosened and the fuse was arcing. Very happy they positively identified the problem though!
