I gave up helping my kids with their junior shook homework as the questions were so poorly written and could be misunderstood.

Agreed. I even went to see the headteacher to complain about the standards when my youngest was at school. Poor grammer, ambiguous questoions and in some cases, information that was plain wrong.

My favourite example of this was going into school and asking the teacher to explain to my son correctly why his magnet did not stick to an aluminium can when she had told the class of 10 year olds that magnets stick to metal :)

My daughters 6 in 3 weeks. I am already in a world of pain- and that’s before puberty.
Still, it’s comforting to know that in some far off part of the world there are others I thought would have nailed this -as useless as I am ;)

Oh god, what am I gonna do with algebra.

I gave up being a teacher when the ESTYN Inspector asked me what a certain acronym stood for and she didn’t know the answer to her own question. Initial Teacher Training standards and the inspectorate are having negative effects on the education system.

That's just rubbish Assessing.
In my world we have a set of questions to ask an engineer, they've been through a 'board' to check that they are at the correct level and that the answer is correct. Money rides on it so we have to be precise otherwise the whole 'Assessment' Procedure is flawed.

AN answer for A is 172 but there are many correct answers the way the question is asked.

The are lots of answers to A, even if you assume 3 different digits and equal coin stacks of which 172 is one. If you split the coins into equal stacks and throw away the remainder you have 2 100s, 16 10s and 16 1s. Splitting these equally gives you numerous answers

123, 132, 134, 143, 145, 154 etc. etc right up to 187
