If all the led's are lighting up but just dim then its either a bad earth or more likely the diode in the unit on the 12v supply. Its a pennies part but its breaking down and restricting the voltage going to the led's.

If your handy with a soldering iron it shouldnt be too difficult to fix.

The other possible cause is the first led in the array is faulty and restricting the voltage to the rest.

You can disconnect the 3rd brake light and apply a suitable 12v current directly to it. If it lights up brighter then its an earth issue with the wiring on the car. You can also use a 9v battery for testing purposes but that should light up dimmer than normal. If its brighter at 9v it still points to an earth fault.

A local auto electrician may be able to fix it for you if they are used to working on circuit boards.

Thanks for this. Is there a diagram or instructions on how to access and remove it??

Sadly there's no Haynes manual for Maseratis. It's just a case of studying the parts diagrams on Scuderia or Eurospares and working it out yourself.
You may find some 'how to' threads on here but if not feel free to add one.

It's for a 4200 Coupe.

Ah, will I that case the part you posted won’t fit and the instructions will be useful!

You’ll want part 191832. £66 plus the dreaded.
