The odd time it works with me but most of the time I make things look worse than they were.

I tidied mine up also as the bolts had been sprayed prior to my purchase over two years ago along with a basic tidy up on the face of the alloys. I decided to merely brush polish them as the wheels will be on and off a few times between now and September so any paint applied will just get damaged.

Not sure if there is much point in rechroming them as the entire problem is that they are chrome plated and not stainless steel so when you or someone else removes the bolts - even which a breaker bar as opposed to an impact wrench - the chrome will chip exposing the steel to the elements causing rust and the chrome plating the flake off.

Hills engineering do this but it's a bit much for the hobbyists tool chest: http://www.hillengineering.co.uk/tools/wheel-related-2/chromesaver-sockets

Anyway here is a before and after, I used a wire brush wheel on a cordless drill and then some metal polish:

I had my bolts done by one of the classic car restoration places and its been great, I suspect heavier chrome plate than yours as my bolts are still good and that was probably 5 or 6 years ago now.

Seem to remember I had my 3200's done years ago by the only chrome place I trust, Silver Bronze in Alton, Hants.

£9 a bolt seems to be the number from memory.
