hi, I'm new to the forum and have a 2007 Maserati Quattroporte Sports GT Automatic with wet sump and 84,000kms on the clock. It has a rattle on startup, so I got new timing chain, both timing variators and solenoids have been replaced but still have the rattle on the righthand side on startup. When i pull out the plug on the right-hand side solenoid it goes away and the car runs like normal, I even took it for a drive, and everything was running like normal, came home shut the car down, then plugged the solenoid back in went to start it and again the rattle, unplugged the solenoid and the rattle is gone. Has anyone else had this problem ??

Non return valves put in to stop the oil draining back.
They need to be done through Maserati.

Noise on startup and goes away = variators

No noise on startup then constant noise = solenoid valve

Deeper noise on startup = timing chain guide snapped

thank you, With the right-hand solenoid unplugged it runs fine and drives fine. does this cause damage if it did i would have thought it wouldn't run properly. or rattled or noisy i didn't expect it to run like normal

I changed the solenoid but still rattles on startup but then unplugged nothing. Is it doing harm to the motor with the timing variator solenoid unplugged?

My mechanic told me he replaced the solenoid. Can anyone tell me where I can get the one-way valves for the timing variator to stop the oil from going back from ??

Have to be done through Maserati who have approved Engineering shops to to the work.
When I worked for them in New Zealand we used to send them to Australia for the modification.

Hum, did he?

The variators mod is done by Maserati so you have to go through a dealer or specialist

@conaero do you know what the part numbers timing chain guide are? Is it 186185? I was also thinking of changing the chain itself. And the chain tensioner 196683.
