Elises are a very good shout. they're basically an updated Lotus 7 (Caterham/Westfield etc) which was the gentlemen's track car of the 60's. Dan! is renovating his at the moment and you can see how well built they are and how easy they are to play around with.

Great straight out the box but very easy to fettle and tune......

If it were me, I'd be looking for a road legal car. Track days are fun, but why should the fun stop at the end of the track day...

I wonder if something like a Radical would be too fast for a track day (is that possible...?)
I'm biased, but I'd be looking at Elise / Caterham / VX220 Turbo.

Guy i know (Jim Larkham) holds the roadsports lap record at kirkistown in a radical...1st corner, debtors dip, he takes flat at almost 160!!

Pic not great...time is 59 secs for 1.53 miles..average 95ish mph!! A seriously scary car...
