Trickle Chargers

I've used a CTEK since my car was a couple of months old (largely because the thing would not start, bloody embarrassing) and am still on the factory battery six years later.

Just remember to disconnect them before driving out of the garage...... although one would have to be a total idiot not to.....

Absolutely. What sort of idiot would drive off without disconnecting. And certainly it would have to be a *really* special idiot to do it more than once.....

Equally stupid are those people who have security bollards that forget they're up and reverse into them...

I have two CTEK charges, both quite new. Both work intermittently at best, irrespective of which car I connect them to. My much older and cheaper charger is far more reliable, if a bit slower.

I've done that. Rode about 5 inches then the bike stopped and down I went. Embarrassing trying to pick up a Ducati

Firstly to reply to the OP. I have 5 Lidl ones & the have been great with no issues. Just bought 5 of the LCD Aldi ones but only used one for a short time but also seems fine. I can't fault the Lidl non-LCD ones at £13.99 TBH. Simple & effective.

Secondly...stupid things...I must have done a few! Can't say I have ever driven off with trickle charger leads attached. I haven't got a bollard. However, I did drive off once after working on a car when I was about 18 to get halfway down the road to feel a sudden terrible vibration through the front wheels. Yup, hadn't fully tightened my nuts on one of the front wheels....only hand tight! Never did that again!!

Halfway down the road? Didn't know scrotox* was around in those days. No wonder you were asked to cough.

*Google has lots of info and, though I didn't open the links, photos.

Wow; lower????

About to purchase a trickle charger for the Strad for use in the boot socket - think this CTEK is well recommended but any views appreciated before pressing the button;

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00FC42...lid=2NYWRJLRBSZN0&coliid=I2FE0SIICWO8M6&psc=1

Cheers in advance.

Hi All

I have now purchased the aforemented/linked charger - but forgive me, I am being very dense as to how to actually use it! :(

All the instructions clearly discuss connecting it/the clamps to the battery direct - so I am struggling to see how / whether the CTEK simply connects into the battery maintainer/charger socket on the right hand side of the boot? The leads which came with the pack don't seem to fit easily into the right hand side socket?

Or do I need to purchase something additional to go in the cigarette-style socket on the left hand side of the boot?

Cheers in advance and sorry!

On mine I have connected the leads (and the little black and red o-rings) directly to my battery, and then the cabling just sits in the well underneath the boot cover. This means when I park up in the garage, I open the boot, pull out the lead (with the black and orange connector at the end of it, and just clip that into the CTEK).

The other option is to buy a cigarette lighter type connector, and just plug that into the 12V socket on the left hand side of the boot. I have one of these for my Mini Cooper.

Hope this helps...

Well, after I heard about some idiots driving out of the garage with the things still connected, ahem, I made a little pig tail cable up with a quick release connector to stop it happening to me, ahem:

the idea is that the connector releases before any (more) damage is done.
