Tyres and suggestions

Let's try not to go into a war over this, please
MOT passed today (yay!) Advisory that the rears are getting close to the wears (more yay!) I am not hugely enamoured of my recent experience so have been looking at options for winter / all weather tyres.
I have 20" rims. As far as I can see after extensive trawling of the manufacturer sites none of the big boys make all season tyres in the right size.

So options:
Get winters at £quite a lot for the 20s and swap to them next winter. In the meantime get some more summer tyres and abandon hope if we get any more snow.
Get some 19" wheels from ebay and add some all season tyres (probably Continental All Season Contact), Then flog the 20"s
Get some tyres that are 'nearly' the right size for the 20"

Basically 19" are the only ones that come in the right size as an all season. I'm tempted by this as I find the 20s a bit damned hard, but that might be because they're knackered.

Thoughts? Especially experience on the Contis

TIA

I can only chip in with this; mine are 20s and had winters when I purchased it April 21. Changed to PS4S in September 21 because of a damaged tyre and didn’t notice any effect on ride quality. I was expecting the PS4S to be more harsh than the softer winters but no.

19” with winters, 20” with summers. Ms’ pug has a set of each. It’s like a a really grippy thing driving on another really grippy thing in the ice/snow. The winters tram line a little (Alpins) but that’s the only down side.

I'm here for the comments.
Pleased she passed the MOT but beware it's a minimum standard at the time of the test.

Oh totally, there were a couple of things that were concerning me, but Feli et al have put my mind at rest. Now I can concentrate on spending the money that I had earmarked to address those possible concerns.

How were they in the snow, or didn't you?

I can (probably) kick the winters into the long grass for a bit. And watch ebay for the wheels (Set of wheels + tyres will be the thick end of 2k)

I guess it depends how long you keep the car. Ms has had the Pug 15 years so it’s a bit of a no-brainer.
Is there a 17” or 18” option?

We didnt have any so couldn’t comment on that. If I had a daily commute and had no other vehicle as an option I would have winters and swap. I think the 20s suit the Ghibli over the 19s.

For 2k I’d get a set of PS4S a pair of winters for the rear and swap as and when.

There are some close ones for the 20s actuallly

275/30 and 275/40 are both available with the 275/40 being within 3% of the rolling diameter of the specified 285/35.

Not sure that 10mm difference in width is going to matter a great deal?

Did mytyres.co.uk not have any Michelin winters in stock?

I had this dilemma. I have the 21s on mine. In the end I just bought a set of winter tyres and swap them every winter.
They are expensive at the moment mind. I have pirelli sottozero on rear and vredestein wintrac extreme on the front. On their 2nd winter now.

Dont mix winter and summer tyres.. you will be able to go but not turn!

Yes that's one of the choices. Buy some summers 'now' and get winters next winter. Just not sure ICBA to change the tyres every year.
