Tyres

Evening all

Has anybody recommendations for replacing worn P Zero rear tyres on my 4200 Spyder? I have new-ish P Zeros on the front. The rears have only done about 6000 miles so I wondered if a different make might last longer.

If it was me I'd get the same again, then wait until wear coincides with the front and get something as a set. Wear is a trade off against grip,( sort of.) There will be many opinions along shortly ;)

I wouldn't buy P-Zeros if they were £10 each. They're ****. 6,000 miles is also silly unless you drive like the Stig so I'd have the alignment checked. For me I'd look at Michelin Pilot Sport, Goodyear Eagle F1, Continental, Vredestein. Unless you want track tyres in which case P-Zero Corsa are good. It's the normal versions that are not great. Trust me, change brands and you'll understand, especially if the weather is a little colder.

As most of us only do low summer mileages isn't it better to have bags of grip in the dry on tires that wear quickly than have something that last for years and then go's over date..

The Pirellis are untouchable in the dry on track but a hint of cold or damp and they are like Marbles! I will be putting something different on mine soon but keeping the Part worn Pirellis for track use.

I have P Zero Rossos on mine, I like them, yes a bit skittery in the cold and damp, I can live with that. P Zero neros, unsure of. If I could find Corsas in my size I would fit them, as they were original equipment on the AC. Bit of a blanket statement to dismiss P Zeros though. That said I have Pilot Sport 3s on the Alfa.

I pretty much agree. My old spyder had P-zero rossos which were really great in the dry and warm, but not so in the cold or cool and wet. 6000 miles definitely is a bit poor so check the geometry. I've just put Michelin Pilot Super Sports on my GS Spyder and although I've only done a few hundred miles on them, they seem pretty epic! The new Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymetric 3's should now be available for your size wheels and I wouldn't hesitate at giving them a go.

It seems that many people are happy with the Pirellis, particularly as the rossos were stock on the cars, but those who haven't liked them and have changed brand (myself included) have been seriously impressed with any of the above-mentioned alternatives.

Also, are you more likely to replace tyres based on age rather than mileage? If so, then go for grip.

Another vote for the Goodyears, lovely all rounder I have swore by the asymetric 2 for many years and also tried various others. My 4200 is currently on Bridgestone which I can't fault but once they wear out I'll change to Goodyear. Not a fan of pirelli good summer tyre in summer but too much tyre rumble especially on that nasty concrete on the m25 I can't wait to get the pirelli run flats off my 3 series

I'm going to pop Goodyear Eagle's on the QP in a few weeks. Had the 2's on a couple of previous cars & they performed well.

Goodyear F1's are the best tyre I have run on all 5 of my Maseratis. I found them terrible on the coupes but ok on the GranTurismo to be fair.

Truley woeful on the 19's of the GranSport and forever splitting sidewalls after hitting potholes due to the over stiffened sidewalls.

Ok then. The best dry road tire with lots of grip, what do ya recon... Forget about the wet and cold as most cars on here are tucked away for the winter months

The best dry tyre I came across for that exact purpose was the Michelin Pilot Supersport. A bit pricey but the best dry weather tyre when I looked at all the options. I popped a pair on the rear of my 4200 recently.

I would still want a good wet and dry tyre. We had one of the hottest summers for years this year but also one of the wetest month of june in some parts of the country. My business got flooded when we were in Le Mans this year and then again a couple of months ago.

I use mine all year round so i have different requirements but fine days out can still turn very wet quickly in this country.

Another vote for Goodyear Eagle Assymetric 2s. Got them on the 3200GT and will look at same on the QP, super sticky but they do wear... I'd rather that than something I can't trust in the wet.

No salt on roads here so both cars get driven all year round.

i also would vote for the Good Year Eagles, i am just changing over to these, the ride is good, not brilliant, a little hard but the grip in a wide range of driving conditions is pretty good.

Another vote for the Goodyears. They transformed the ride and handling of my GS across all road/weather conditions.

Replaced my rears with Pzeros again recently. Very sticky but very soft - even softer than the previous pair - tread wear number 160! down from 220. Would prefer something I could get a few more miles out of. Will probably try something different next time when the fronts will need replacing

I had GY Eagles on my AC and they were fantastic, excellent rim protection too.
On my Abarth, I have opted for Michelin PS3 which I am very happy with.
And on the GTS, I have Contis all round which have transformed the car, especially cutting out the tramlining which was almost dangerous before

Tyres are a very personal choice but in each of the 3 cases above, the cars previously were running P Zeros so I think you know what I think of them!

Interesting about the tramlining as mine does it a little and more pronounced in the wet, if you hit a drain storm the back end wriggles.

Mine did it on P Zeros to the point where I thought my geo must have been out. I changed to Conti SP6 and it was transformed. And in the cold, damp weather they were lethal, despite them having 5mm of tread at the time.
You'll notice the difference when it's time to change I'm sure.
