Well you all know where my heart lies, this as with many other of the launch articles all get to the same point. If you want to understand the SZ you have to drive it. Even now after over 40k miles everytime you turn in to the first corner at speed you get that big smile and realise just how good it is.

My favourite tag line from the original press articles is " Would you spend £40k on something as ugly as this? After driving it, we would!!"

Beauty or indeed ugliness is surely in the eye of the beholder - I don't find it ugly at all, just different from what was being produced at the time or since

Absolutely. I loved it from the off, and I think it has aged very well. Just look at what was on sale in 1990; Ford were still making Escorts, Nissan were still making Bluebirds, Rover were still flogging the Metro.

No, this was streets ahead.
