These days, now the bubble is bursting, buy a car that you want to drive, not a car you think will balloon in value. At the end of the day, cars are meant to be driven, not stored in a pension plan.

Well stated Ian can't agree more.
Going to use mine until I don't care about anything anymore.

What bubble Ben, Was offered 25k for my old 3200GT last week, I turned it down ..as I'm off to the South of France in it in the next couple of weeks..

There always a punter somewhere with lots of cash to spend!

Really, even with the massively hyped IMF/DMF problems?? (which only effects 5% of the population apparently)

With the stigma that comes with the N/A 996 cars if they do shoot up in value then u can expect the 3200 and probably 4200 to follow but I'm sceptical as the used market for these cars in the UK is broken.

Also they sold so many N/A 996s in the UK that the market is flooded with poor examples. Similar stuff to the Masers with no service history and a fist full of faults that we tell people not to touch with a barge pole

Take this fine example, own a Supercar at mondeo prices seems like someone has spent the same amount they would maintaining a modeo on this porsche, no service history massive milage roof sensor fault and who knows what else

I can guarantee values will surge the year after I sell out. Usually the case with my toys.

The only toys I have which have gone up in value are my Leica lenses. Bought a 75 Summilux for a couple of hundred quid from a Leica forum member years ago and they seem to change hands about five fold what I paid. Everything else I indulge in - cars, motorbikes, bicycles, hi-fi - just crash in value.

After the litigation in the states for ims issues, I believe Porsche reckoned it affected around 10% of cars, but it will probably be more. Lots of solutions now, but it will always be a concern. They really do need an oil change every year and not just on mileage if you are going to buy one. Basic design flaw, but apparently 997 3.8s engines after 2006 are the ones least likely to fail.

What makes me laugh is Nick Whale is just stating cars which have already gone up. BMW E30 prices have gone through the roof the last 2 years, so have any Ford cars including mk1 Escorts and RS Turbo's and 205 GTI's. It's a joke of an article.
