10 mile from Santapod (on the way there!) there was a nasty noise from the top of engine. 7 hours later we were recovered home to east sussex. Having started to look at the problem (not taken cam covers off yet) it has been surgested that it could be a variable valve timing problem. Has anyone had this problem before?

I know they had some issues on GranTourismo's as I saw them doing one at Dick Lovett's Swindon the other year.

It could be a failure, or blockage of the oil pressure tank on top of the engine, this feeds the variators at each side of the "V" at the front. The tank sits in the centre of the "V" under the cowl. The tank is pressurized and takes in oil then the pressure pushes it back out to the variators, essential when starting otherwise the variators can get starved of oil at start up..!! Not sure if this is your problem, what sort of noise was it..??
