Its odd how a cat B can be on the road but as many things, their is always a way.

I suppose its easy to work out why the Alacantar everywhere now...to cover the split panels when the airbags went off.

I made an enquiry when I first saw this on eBay a few weeks ago. I don't want to buy it, just wanted to see what the score is. I made the same point to the seller about Cat B and was told "there is a way around it"! The price is also negotiable. I would say steer very clear, it looks like it could be a world of trouble!

Category 'B'

BREAK only. Parts can be salvaged from these vehicles but the body shell, or frame in the case of motorbikes, must be destroyed.

So how do you get around it? Surely it's cat B status will appear on the insurance database and it will be uninsurable...in the UK.

I thought it was all a voluntary code, not illegal to put one back on the road, but yes, insurers would probably want to see some pretty good documentation on the repairs before they would touch it.

It can be done, my old Cerbera was a cat B write off at 9 months old, but factory put it back on the road, not sure what they replaced, could have been rebodied though. It is very rare though as they should normally be broken.

Since posting I have had a search of the web, and yes a cat B can go back on the road as long as it still has the VIN number and passing the MOT and IVA (think that is what it is called these days) test. If no VIN gets a Q plate.
Still think insurance may be an issue though.

yeah as said, the law states cat b 'should' be broken for spares, but not 'must' so you can indeed just mot/vic check and back on the road :)

I thought Cat B has to stay in the trade whereas C & D can go to the public?

well yeah basicly c and d can be auctioned off to anyone, where as cat b can only go to a registered breaker, who 'should' break it, but nothing stopping that person repairing it and mot/vic/applying for the v5

someone posted this up last week and I said then there is something wrong with it: look at the gap between the wheels and the arches. The gaps appear too wide when compared to other GT's

Does look like it's got Mini wheels on...and belts for tyres. Run away!!!
